You Won’t Believe Who Romney’s Related To

How many Commanders-in-Chief can you get in one family tree? When it’s former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney’s family tree, the answer is six.

According to Ancestry.com, the world’s largest online family history resource, Romney’s family tree connects him to Franklin D. Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Pierce, Herbert Hoover, and both George H.W. and George W. Bush.

Romney is connected to Presidents George W. Bush (10th cousins, twice removed), George H. W. Bush (10th cousins, once removed) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (8th cousins, twice removed) through Ann Marbury Hutchinson, a key figure in the development of religious freedom in America and early settler of Rhode Island and New York.

Naw. Not just a claim and I’m a woman, so I am NOT your Uncle Brad. LOL IF your Uncle Brad does make that claim there may be something to it. Stories come from somewhere.

Although, some of the family did go South (Mississippi) and West(Iowa), too many to keep track of. The family name is there (Martha’s Vineyard)in a book they say. I’ve never been there so I’ve not seen the book.

People would recognize the last name, but wouldn’t post it in public.

>> the owners are LDS <<

I don’t know the percentage breakout between LDS and “gentile” stockholders. But that number is now irrelevant, since Ancestry has just been bought by a European conglomerate.

So what are my dad’s cousins to me (his son)? I realize to them I am their first cousin once removed.

ah, Well, your grandpa and great grandpa have children, they would be cousins. Their children would be second cousins, but to the first cousins, the children of the first cousins would be first cousins once removed, but to each other second cousins.
I think, I need a flow chart.
It’s just easier to say cousin, well unless you want to get married, then you do have to figure it out, there are some laws against that and all.
;0)

The family has no one who served in the military after their arrival.

That is not true. Some have said that neither Mitt Romney nor his father or grandfather served in the US military. But other members of the family did, like cousins Vernon Romney and G. Ott Romney, and Uncle Charles Wilcken Romney.

Or his sons or his grandfather or his greatgrandfathers or greatgreatgrandfathers, well I guess second and third cousins would count.

So I guess the idea that Mormons own it is officially a myth.

Yes, certainly as far as today’s reality is concerned. I think, however, that LDS members did in fact start Ancestry.com — years ago and long before the company ever issued shares to the public. That’s probably how the “myth” arose.

“Interesting that Romney’s ancestor is Ann Hutchinson. “

She used to work the grill at the country club where I grew up.

Probably Jews :) #ironical

I’m always afraid I’ll find a Yankee in the woodpile.

“Ok, here goes.
Your mom has a sister, she is your aunt.
The aunt’s kids are your first cousins, your first cousin’s children are your first cousin once removed, their children would be your first cousin twice removed.
Your first cousins children and your children would be second cousins, so their children would be second cousins once removed.”

That is probably the simplest way I have ever heard that explained! Thanks!

Except for the Civil War, Americans in the mid-19th century usually didn't join the military. We had a very small Army and Navy in those days.

If you were too old or two young for the Civil War (or the wars with Mexico or Spain) chances are you didn't serve.

But really, do you want to have what your grandfather or great-grandfater did or didn't do to be held against you as though it were somehow your fault?
