Panthers' Newton: Criticism not related to race

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton came into 2012 facing enormous expectations after his offensive rookie of the year performance last season, and he hasn't lived up to his billing.

Nor have the Panthers, who after improving from 2-14 in 2010 to 6-10 in Newton's first season were looking to take the next step. Instead, they're off to a 1-5 start heading into their game against the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field.

As a result, he has faced a fair share of criticism for his play and for his demeanor.

His reaction?

"I just keep living life," Newton told Chicago reporters Wednesday in a conference call about the Bears-Panthers game Sunday. "I understand I'm not perfect. I'm striving to be great. Whatever people may think, or whatever people may criticize me on, I take it for what it's worth, and continuously try to make myself better each and every opportunity I get."

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon, who has been a mentor to Newton, indicated some of the criticism of Newton may be race-related.

Rush had a great “riff” on Moon’s explanation. Without even referencing his MNF dismissal, Rush pointed out that Moon was saying ^the exact same thing^ Rush said and was fired for.

Classic!

I read where the current storm “Sandy” has been compared to the “Perfect Storm of 1991.” That’s stormophobia.

Being a Panthers fan, I am accustomed to constant disappointment. But good on Cam for not jumping onto this race card crap.
