The U.S. military did not quickly intervene during the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya last month because military leaders did not have adequate intelligence information and felt they should not put American forces at risk, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday.
In his most extensive comments to date on the unfolding controversy surrounding the attack in Benghazi, Panetta said U.S. forces were on heightened alert because of the anniversary of 9/11 and prepared to respond. But, he said, the attack happened over a few hours and was over before the U.S. had the chance to know what was really happening.

The decision to not use military forces was made at 5pm in the meeting with Obama, Biden and Panetta. Dempsey’s a lap dog. If he had any honor he’d resign. The State Department flew a DC-3 into Benghazi you stinking cowards. A World War Two airplane. But you can’t send any modern jets because you just don’t know what’s going on? Ask the State Department pilot. Shit, get rid of all our admirals and generals and we’ll put FEDEX pilots in charge. Why are we paying these admirals and generals? The purpose of the military is to protect American citizens. If they can’t do that, then what the hell do we need them for? Dempsey....what a piece of work....can call a Pastor and ask him to give up his First Amendment rights, but can’t help Americans under fire in Benghazi. What a worthless puke.
Just sending a flight of fighter-bombers over the crowd as low as it could go would likely have dispersed the crowd.
I word really like to hear from Petreaus. Or is he in duck and cover mode too. Disappointing that he’s letting his reputation go in the Obama crapper.
They had live feed that told them that our people were being shot at and burned out. They shouldn’t need to wait for a lawyerly brief as to culpability to know that those people needed help. They froze. They froze because they were afraid of looking like Les Aspin - the Hero of Mogadishu. Instead, they wind up looking worse. Aspin at least had the decency to resign.

He’s been left wing for quite a long time; I don’t know if during his college days or his military service in Viet Nam. By the late 1960’s he was working in the Dept of HEW, apparently working on civil rights. He switched to the Democratic party in 1971.
He’s paid homage to various socialists/communists over the years in speeches, etc.

His left wing background I guess has been scrubbed by the current administration; he had another tribute for an outright Communist, Hugh DeLacy, inserted into the Congressional Record in 1983. I guess that was ok because Hugh DeLacy had served in Congress.
Many leftists, back in the 1970’s, made a point of laying low and becoming part of government and other institutions.

is there any chance that the terrorists on both ends of that chain were in touch with each other, and Stevens was the only link that someday might squeel, when those on the recieving end in Syria “betrayed” us and founded an Islamist state ready to extend their revolutionary Jihad from Damascus to Tel aviv?
