Editorial: Stick With Steve Pearce In U.S. House District 2 (NM ABQ Journal)

U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce is a seasoned Beltway pragmatist who says he is running for re-election because this is a turning point for the nation.

Pearce, a Republican from Hobbs, is seeking a fifth term representing southern New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, a seat he won back after an unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate in 2008. Pearce held the District 2 seat from 2002-2008. He also served in the state House of Representatives.

Pearce believes the nation is at a decision point and worries it may be going the way of failing European nations. A fighter for fiscal responsibility, he says it’s time for the United States to live within its means. He says rebuilding the economy has to start with manufacturing and believes in less restrictive government, lower taxes and regulations that are less punitive.

Steve is one of the good guys - conservative, tea party supporter. He will again likely be the only NM Republican in the Congress as the other two House district seats will remain Democratic and unless Heather Wilson pulls an upset, the senate seat held by a Democratic liberal (Jeff Bingaman) ill go to a far-left environmental-extremist Democrat (Martin Heinrich).

The Journal endorsed Ben Ray Lujan, Democrat and current incumbent, for the District 3 seat previously held by former Governor and Democratic gadfly, Bill Richarson. The Journal has not yet endorsed for District 1 or the Senate or for President. I expect those tomorrow. I'll go out on a limb and predict they endorse Romney for President but haven't a clue about the other two.

Pearce really is one of the few good guys!

Seeing Wilson’s candidacy so far this year disproves the theory that she could’ve held Domenici’s seat in 2008. Also appalling that Janice Arnold-Jones’s candidacy in NM-1 is similarly weak. Jon Barela should’ve been the nominee.
