The election may well boil down to a handful of swing states. Ohio and Pennsylvania are two of the most critical for Obama. It is inconceivable that Obama could lose those two states, with their 38 electoral votes, and win the election. Is there anything at this late date which Romney might do to make an extra pitch to voters in those northern industrial states?
Yes. A news story that broke on October 20 ought to raise lots of eyebrows in those states. Two separate studies, one by Standard and Poor's and the other by ITG Investment Research, determined that Obama's U.S. Energy Information Administration had dramatically underestimated the size of the Marcellus Shale Gas Field. How badly off were Obama's bureaucrats? The field is three times richer than the Obama administration thought, and the field may hold half of the proven gas reserves in America. This is from a federal agency which is intended to provide independent information and statistics. Was this simply typical Obama incompetence, or was it typically Obama calculated mendacity? Who knows, but Obama's men wildly miscalculated how much cheap energy lies in the field.
Moreover, the gas seems likely to be very cheap to extract. Natural gas is a very clean energy resource, but as a fossil fuel -- an energy resource which actually works -- it leaves leftists cold. Where is the Marcellus Field? It stretches from West Virginia through Pennsylvania and Ohio and into New York.
A federal government aggressively committed to removing regulatory obstacles to the exploration and production in this field could very quickly create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs in Pennsylvania and Ohio (the average pay at one of those sites is $83,000 a year.)

I have occasion to travel to eastern Ohio quite a bit.
I have seen many signs “Stop the war on coal. Fire Obama!” all over eastern Ohio.
I don’t believe Ohio is as close as the lamestream media says it is. ‘Pod.
Ohio may be decided by as few as ten thousand votes. The Ohio coal belt went 55-45 Obama in 2008. In 2012 there will be a 70,000 vote turn around in the region. Same in Pennsylvania. Doubt the current statewide polls are accurately recording this big change.

I wonder how it will impact things in 4 years too. The Utica Shale in Ohio looks interesting and it is still in the very early stages. I work in Wyoming in the oil and gas field. Since we’re mostly exposed to natural gas here we are getting hammered by the low prices. Moving to Ohio while the play is still young and possibly going through another boom again has entered my mind more than once. I just don’t know if I could bring myself to move away from Wyoming! I imagine there are a lot more people like me out there too, as well as those that would enter the field in the next few years if the plays are allowed to take off!
In my opinion, Bam Bam allowing the murder of four Americans in Benghazi in order to further his campaign should swing a voter’s opinion if that voter cares anything about justice and his or her country. Case closed.

The Marcellus play is already moving in Eastern Ohio and Western PA, especially with the "wet gas" fields and the ethane they can pump up. Shell is ready to move on a big cracker facility in Beaver Cty. PA to work the ethane for chemicals. The Utica shale is only the next step -- there is still a lot of years of Marcellus to play out, just on the wet gas, let alone the dry gas that can last for a 100 years or more.
This is the best thing to happen to this region since Andy Carnegie, and of course, the usual suspects on the hard left are doing all they can to stop it. They won't stop it, without a dictatorship in Washington via the EPA. Too many good jobs in an area that really needs good jobs.
I'm not sure what you do, but for everything from geologist to roughneck or equipment operator, or even CDL driver, there are well paying opportunities here.
It's a good place to live and raise a family. It ain't at all like Philadelphia or Cleveland here. As Obama said, folks still cling to their guns, Bibles and families in this area. You would probably like it.
If Obama’s administration underestimated the size of this resource it was not by accident.
