I realize the shape of the seafloor, tides, distance, and direction can influence the height, but felt these warnings were a little overblown considering the early measurements along the Alaskan shore. Both the amplitude and period were wrong.

The shape of the coastline, and the presence (or absence) of sheltering islands are also important factors. My point was (and remains) simply: don’t bet your life against tsunami warnings.
