This strikes me as just pure bureaucratic incompetence on the part of the State Department. Since this was an "interim facility" that did not meet the established security standards, there had to be a signed written wavier for USG personnel to occupy the facilities. That wavier would have to be signed by the Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security (Eric Boswell) or the U/S for Management (Pat Kennedy) or SECSTATE Hillary Clinton. I am 100% certain that the written wavier exists since it is a Congressional requirement. I would love to see who signed it.
Without knowing the true mission of the diplomatic mission at Benghazi I am sure there was tremendous pressure from the intel agencies and State to have something on the ground there hence the rush to put people in despite the lack of security. The true purpose was probably what was located in the annex.
As far as ignoring or not responding to the mission's request for more security in Benghazi, there was probably a feeling in Washington that we should keep the American footprint as small as possible so as not to draw too much attention to the mission and to placate the Libyan government in Tripoli, which did not want the center of political gravity to shift back to Benghazi, which was the interim capital of the revolutionary forces fighting Ghadaffi.
I tend to agree with you. His handlers--Jarret, Plouffe, and Axelrod--act as his political kommisars. But he readily accepts their views because he is a leftist and idealogue. He has been pretty successful following directions whether it is Ayers or Jarret. He only gets in trouble when he goes off script.
I just emailed a thank you to the reporter—Kyle Clark of Denver local news—who had the guts to ask Obama about Benghazi! we should all send him an email thank you.

This was from a Tampa paper online. It will be long slog to verify much more of this. There is a lot there if it can all be believed. This is gonna be a lot of work.

Here's the problem. McCain and Linda are always great, always real conservatives on TV. But, what happens is they get on a bi-partisan committee in the Senate and start caving to the libs. This happens every time. Once that stops I will become a McCain fan. Not until.

An interesting parallel with your theory about using Stevens as a ransom item.
The Iran/Contra situation was based on helping anti-communists in Central America with money obtained by selling arms to Iranians.
Today, it is possible that Stevens was very involved in getting arms to Syrian anti-Assad fighters.

Problem is, Zero has no clue about what it would take to be a Big Shot: honor, courage, duty, selflessness, etc. He has never learned or experienced the sastisfaction of doing something to help someone else. It is totally foreign (!) to him; thus, the idea of being a Big Shot, the American Hero, would have never occurred to him.
Plus, our country is still Christian, no matter what he says. We are brought up with the idea of the Golden Rule, of helping others, of being generous, of “doing the right thing.” Most Americans still know how to do the right thing - and even if they personally don’t do it themselves at times, they know when someone else has failed. He has no clue about any of that, so his reaction is not surprising in the least. His motto is “what’s in it for me?”
We are all so shocked by his dereliction of duty and the resulting lies. But we shouldn’t be. People who have no moral compass really are paralyzed. Their “situation ethics” mindset does not allow for snap decisions or for consistency in thinking.
Because he has no moral compass, Zero is the ultimate danger to our country. He is the walking personification of treason. He is incapable of anything else.
