Lack of Strike Force Impeded Benghazi Response
Washington Times ^ | October 28, 2012 | Rowan Scarborough

As U.S. Africa Command waited for any order to rescue Americans on Sept. 11 at the besieged consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya, it was missing a key unit that the Pentagon gives every regional four-star commander — an emergency strike force.

The new command’s lack of such a unit is another piece in the unfolding Benghazi timeline that shows an overriding theme: As radical Islamic extremism swelled in the chaotic coastal city, U.S. security assets in Libya diminished.

From the State Department’s denial of diplomats’ requests for more security in Libya to Obama administration officials repeatedly saying the military-style attack on the consulate resulted from “spontaneous” protests, the events before, during and after the Benghazi assault reflect the political, diplomatic and military confusion that is post-Gadhafi Libya.

Each U.S. geographic combatant command, whether it be in the Middle East, the Pacific or, in this case, Africa, is entitled to a special operations rapid-response team — a group of Green Berets to perform instant combat in situations like the Islamist militants’ attack on the U.S. Consulate.

But on that day, AfriCom, the Pentagon’s newest geographic combatant command, which is still in the building phase, lacked what is called the “commander in-extremis force,” said a senior special operations official.

“All geographic combatant commands have one allocated to them, except AfriCom,” the senior official said. “AfriCom’s is in the process of being established.”

He didn’t say if we had an armed drone, but I figure they did and decided not to use it because they didn’t have a wide enough view and they considered the area residential.

That is what bothered me. Why would he use the excuse like that if there was no armed drone? He would have just said the drone was an unarmed drone. I think he could not say that because Tyrone Woods wouldn’t have bothered to paint a target. And he knows we all know that he did.

I assumed there was one and it was refused due to collateral damage.

FOX has been playing only shortened clips with Jerry Rivers and Tyrone’s dad because Geraldo behaved like a cheesy whore and kissed Mr Woods(Woods and his family were shocked and recoiled, LOL) because Mr Woods said he would forgive Obozo.

If true that's a pretty pathetic excuse. How many drone-fired missiles has 0coward launched into Pakistan when no American lives were in immediate danger? How much 'collateral damage' have those strikes caused?

Somebody set me straight. The reporter said not only that the SEALs were painting the target but that they were entering coordinates. Is this guy seriously trying to claim that the drone didn’t have a wide enough view to visually see the target that Woods had painted? Would that drone have received GPS coordinates so that it electronically knew exactly where the target was?

And what the heck was the drone looking at? Did it not know that Woods was on top of the CIA annex building shooting? Did they think that he couldn’t see from there whether it was a residential area from which the target was firing? Did they not trust Woods to know the ROE and abide by it?

What should be understood here is that Tyrone knew there was an armed drone up there, but...they decided to not use it in order to keep themselves from getting blamed for collateral damage if they saved the Americans.

Tyrone and his buddy were “bumps in the road” and also “not optimal.”

This thing has more facets to it. Like why did they use the video to put the blame on? Since they knew it was not the video, why is that guy still in jail?

This is one ugly thing, the truth is not a pretty thing, it is explosive.

A surgical strike to precisely where the fire was coming from would only cause collateral damage (loss of the lives of the “good guy” militia members) if the good guys were literally in hand-to-hand combat with the people who were firing on the CIA annex building.

When did the militia even show up to escort out the people in the annex building? My understanding was that they didn’t show up until long after the SEALs were dead. If they want to say that they couldn’t tell the militia from the bad guys they better tell us when the militia even got there and how they knew the militia was there.

I wish I could see video on my computer so I could see the timeline that’s been posted. Am I remembering correctly, that the militia arrived later?

Another thing: If they were afraid of collateral damage, then why the heck didn’t they send all their assets so they would have them available in whatever came up? My understanding is that they have planes that are intended to disperse a crowd without causing any damage to anybody. Why the heck didn’t they have that there, available to be used - ESPECIALLY if they knew the complex was in a residential area?

None of their crappy answers make any sense. The fact that they give different excuses every time new evidence shows the old excuse as the crappy lie that it is, tells us they will never tell us the truth until every other option is gone. Sick.

It’s really very simple. Gen. Keane was blowing smoke up our arses about drones and talking coward’s talk about not sending in a rescue team because the fighting seemed to have stopped. That isn’t even true and everyone knows it.

Just sayin'! ;-)

It doesn't get any bigger than POTUS and it doesn't get any lower than 0coward.
