We have not lost a generation to liberalism

***SNIP***

This bright young go-getter said what struck him most during the debate was Obama saying the rich should pay more. He thought, "Why? Why should people be punished (http://www.newsmax.com/Reagan/Obama-Class-Warfare-Romney/2012/07/12/id/445147) for working harder?" My waiter went on to say, "The problem with my generation is that too many of them think they are entitled. Entitled should be erased from their vocabulary."

Folks, I wanted to give that kid a bear hug right there in the middle of the restaurant. Instead, I was extremely generous with my gratuity. Upon handing him cash, I said, "Thank you for not being a liberal." This young man gave me hope for our future. I would not be surprised to meet him years later to learn that he had grown to own a chain of hotels or restaurants. Such a scenario is only possible by firing Obama in November.

While my conservative waiter was quite refreshing, I do not believe him to be unique. I do not subscribe to the theory that Liberalism has successfully infected a majority of our youths with EMD (Entitlement Mindset Disease). Liberalism is incompatible with the human spirit.

I know that conservative, thinking youths exist, and more commonly among those with quality Christian upbringings.

But I think it will take many years to undo the damage done to American society by Obama and his ilk. And I know we will not know right from wrong again - as a culture - until we return to the God of our fathers.

Indeed they do. One of my sons, for example, is graduating from George Washington University with a degree in political science. After 4 years of fighting the good fight against liberal academia, he is interning with a conservative organization (well-known and I'd prefer not to name it), has served as an intern with our congress critter, and worked for the "right" side. He is in an exceptional church with losts of conservative friends in Washington, DC, and plans to stick around there with an eye to making a difference.

They are not all Obamabots.

There are also a huge number of young gay college republicans and conservatives will need to face a choice in the future.

I always get nervous when I hear about someone whose goal is “to make a difference.” That is usually uttered by some leftwing know-it-all who wants to run everyone else’s life.

I’m assuming your son does not mean it in that way.

I think we need to teach young people that the best way to start making a difference is to take responsibility for their own lives, to be financially independent, to be good parents if they have kids.

The best way to influence how other people live their lives is to live ours well and be a positive example.

Your son sounds like he is well on his way! Congrats on his graduation!

“But I think it will take many years to undo the damage done to American society by Obama and his ilk.”

I could not agree more. Since the Progressives’ deliberate undermining of America began no later than Woodrow Wilson, there is a lot of termite damage to the house.

“And I know we will not know right from wrong again - as a culture - until we return to the God of our fathers.”

Again I agree. Not sure if it will happen, but we are always mandated to try anyway, at all times and in all generations.

And that is exactly what he means by making a difference. :-)

Liberals have a reputation for wanting to “make a difference” because we used to be a more conservative country and they made it their life mission to change that starting decades ago. Now it’s incumbent upon conservatives to “make a difference” because we have to change it back.

Congrats!

There are 3 Christian Conservative youth that hang around this house....well, now 4.

My oldest just married a wonderful young man. Even though they are only 22, they own a duplex (and a small airplane), but no television. They work extremely hard, and their faith is foremost in their lives.

My youngest two are just starting college. Smart, sensible, no-nonsense and organically conservative. It's in their bones. Like me, they sometimes express frustration that they are "alone" in their thoughts and opinions, but I know they will find others who think like they do.
