Read entire article. At halfway point, author brings new insight why we so wealthy, yet have more inequality compared to other western nations, and yet this is a good thing. It makes valid points how the entire planet benefits from our "cutthroat capitalism" type model by freeloading off our innovation, patents, defense (protecting trade routes, etc), etc.

The West is, of course, the United States and some nearby ‘feeder states’. Everywhere else are Oriental Despotisms.

"Everywhere else are Oriental Despotisms."

I think communism/socialism and its spinoffs have to be considered Occidental rather than Oriental. And the rest are mostly Muslim despotisms. Not sure those would be considered Oriental, either.

To a large degree, we have morphed into a typical third world pay to play kind of nation. We are no longer the country we used to be and it’s just a matter of time until the change catches up with us.

Well said, Adam Smith said it all in his treatise “The Wealth of Nations” written in 1776. Give people the Right to Own and everything falls into place. And, the right to Own doesn’t mean the Government can tax it away from you.

Unfortunately, too much of the throat cutting is now done in the halls of Washington instead of in the marketplace.

China morphed into the US in terms of production and marketing.

The difference is that the Carnegies and Mellons are the Marxist government powerful. They did things backwards.

I saw a photo of some Chinese people on the street. There were some young girls. At least one was wearing Daisy Mae’s.

They were imitating America.

We need to focus on making America strong.

China is feeding off America. Everything in China benefits China first. Everything sold by China benefits China.

China is all about China.

Americans working for China are selling out. Selling out America, and our future.

Is a nation that is $16 Trillion in debt really “wealthy”?

I'm pretty sure that's where the "cutthroat" in cutthroat capitalism comes from. If you're not benefiting from the trade and labor realities of dealing with the Chi-Coms, then you're just not being very smart.

Disagree, strongly.

I was very pro-China very early. We have screwed up things with China so badly now I have turned 180 degrees and want a break.

Cease all imports.

We are getting screwed in everything having to do with China.

I'm not sure what you mean by "We"?

If I'm a CEO and I go to my executive team and we determine that we can be x-times wealthier by cutting labor costs and offshoring to China, then that's what we're going to do. That does right by me and mine.

That's capitalism.

If our fortunes are the result of our own choices, then by definition the outcomes will be unequal, because people make different choices.

The fraudulent foundation of Socialism is the idea that different choices should result in the same outcomes. Equal results instead of equal opportunity.

Not true. In very many cases, the Chinese product is the highest quality option available. Confirmation bias on the part of the anti-China observer leads to examples of the opposite case being magnified out of proportion.

China makes a lot of cheap junk - China also makes some of the best products available. It is up to the free market to determine which is which, to reward the good and punish the bad, just as it did with Japan in the 50's and 60's.

if America is the only part of the WEST, all the rest are necessarily oriental despotisms ~ just pointing that out since it's definitional.

If you want to include England you have to learn to say 'the Continent' to differentiate them from their cousins.

Honest question Mr. CEO,

Since the middle class is disappearing in the USA, who do you expect to have the disposable income to buy your products?

How do you feel about making China stronger and the USA weaker?
