I had to self-censor myself, didn’t feel like getting a time-out.

You do realize that the entire Jersey Shore with all of its real estate got flooded? And much of NYC and Long Island as well? This wasn’t just a few homes.

Not to mention the huge loss of power for millions of people including a million customers without electricity on Long Island alone. That is 80 percent of the customer base.

What I found interesting is that on FNC they had a graphic with the words “16 Americans” killed as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Americans in America, whodathunkit.

For one thing, you evidently didn’t follow these threads very closely and secondly and no offence to you folks in states like KY but the entire population of the state of KY is around 4.3 million. The population of NYC alone is around 8.2 million.

I could not believe those threads and some of those posters; they are pretty much silent now.

It's hard to post when your computer is under water.

"Would you rather sit in your home where you have a generator, a tractor,a chain saw, your own supply of food and water, you are above the flood plain,or go to a shelter and place yourself at the mercy of the Government with a pack of strangers in a school building that was probably built by a low bidder?"

There are also looters. People will hunker down at home for this reason.

Wow. You are deeply clueless. Millions of people have been evacuated. Several communities likely wiped out. Thousands of homes destroyed. Tens of billions of property damages. Something like 5-7% of the US population missing a week of work (in other words billions of GDP lost).

No one around here belittled the devastating Colorado fires.

Bunch of nasty morons on this thread.

"I haven't seen that"

Willful ignorance and wearing blinders do not support an untruth. Others (myself included) have witnessed what Kartographer described.

WHY don’t folks evacuate?

It could be because of economic reasons. Can they afford to stay at hotels? Or because home feels safe (even when it isn't). Or because inaction is the path of least resistance.

It makes sense to evacuate if you live in a flood zone. Someone made the point that water always wins. I agree.

"Barry hates white people."

Sandy hates white people. It is the Earth rebelling against the white folk.

Gore says the Earth has a fever. Maybe that is reason for Sandy's wrath.

Gore.....HA....Loon. Sex Crazed Poodle.

Enough rain, coming in sideways for long enough and it will eat the mortar from between bricks, cause foundations to settle, resulting in cracked walls. Add high winds and it is very damaging to structures, infrastructure and big trees. We had it here in 2007 (IIRC) with hours/days of torrential rain training up from the Gulf. Our little river was a brown raging torrent for several days. It changed course and trees came down for several days afterward. In the aftermath, we found damage we hadn’t conceived of before, but, luckily, it was fixable.

I’d rather have a snow blizzard than a heavy rain train. Add that even fresh water spray from a large lake or river will cause damage, over time,I can only imagine what high wind-driven salt spray can do. I’ve been told it will peel paint.

The river towns along the Mississippi are all on bluffs, with retaining walls behind the buildings. After a prolonged saturating rain, many of those walls can be breached or overrun by mud and downed trees.

The damage is terrible and I pray for those who lost their homes. The only bright side is there will be a boost to the economy as people begin to rebuild. It will require building supplies and lots of labor (jobs). Buy stock in home depot!

“Maybe because like so many of the ‘experts’ on FR they decided that the storm was fake?”

I could not believe those threads and some of those posters; they are pretty much silent now.

Not to worry. They will crawl out of the woodwork again for the next storm with their “it’s all a fake and a commie plot” claims. And on the other side of the insanity coin, libs are claiming Sandy was caused by AGW.

It isn’t merely the devastating fires.

It is the high-handed way eastern liberals have dealt with westerners when we’ve protested the policies that LED to the Colorado fires... and the Nevada fires of ‘99, and the Wyoming fires, Montana fires, Idaho fires, etc.

Add to that the economic depravation of the eastern liberal war against:

Logging, grazing, coal mining, gold mining, oil drilling, gas drilling, etc, etc, etc.

The self-serving, unctuous twaddle that emanates from the east coast and the NYC region in particular, has been insufferable for the last 20 years.

As the Bible says:

“For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind...”

It appears as tho a whirlwind has arrived.

“The media right now will be focusing on the most photogenic areas.”

Correction — they will focus on the most photogenic areas they can get to cheaply and easily.

I remember the 2004 tidal wave in the Indian Ocean — you would have thought the thing only hit Phuket — the upscale Thai resort island with international air connections where about 2500 were killed.

No one bothered to report from the whole west coast of India where 200,000 were killed.
