Are these ballots counted and registered prior to or on election day, or are they put in a provisional pile to be used only if the count is close?
I’m a Virginian and had to use an absentee ballot for the first time ever due to a medical conditional. I don’t want my ballot sitting in a pile somewhere and not counted by election day.
I don’t really know how the absentee ballots are handled.
From teh Virginia.gov site:
Rumor Buster: Please note that all absentee ballots cast will be counted in a timely fashion. There appears to be rumors circulating that absentee ballots are not counted if the margin of victory is not close enough for the absentee ballots to make the difference in the election. That rumor is absolutely false. All absentee ballots completed properly and timely returned will be counted.
