Superstorm Sandy has even flooded the Internet.
Popular New York based media blogs The Huffington Post, Gawker, Gizmodo, Mediate and more were inaccessible Tuesday after flooding from superstorm Sandy knocked out web host Datagram's servers Monday night -- along with power to millions of New York, New Jersey and Connectivity residents.
"We are continuing to battle flooding and fiber outages in downtown New York and Connecticut. ... generators are unable pump fuel due to the flooding in the basements," Datagram wrote on its website early Tuesday morning.

Datagram website:
**************************************************
Due to widespread outages from Verizon, ATT & Paetec (Windstream) our phones are not currently working, but our email is working fine and we are standing by. You can email us at support@datagram.com..
Our Bethel, Connecticut facility is on-line and functioning normally
Official Statement
As of 5pm on October 29, 2012, Datagram had thoroughly tested its emergency systems at 33 Whitehall, NYC fully staffed and awaiting the storm to hit Manhattan's shores. Once ConEd lost power to Lower Manhattan, Datagram's emergency systems kicked on maintaining power to Datagram's datacenter. Unfortunately, within a couple hours of the storm hitting Manhattan's shores, the building's entire basement, which houses the building's fuel tank pumps and sump pumps, was completely filled with water and a few feet into the lobby. Due to electrical systems being underwater the building was forced to shut down to avoid fire and permanent damage.
We experienced no infrastructure damage due to the storm.
We have been working closely with the city, coned and building engineers to clear the water from the basement so that we may restore our emergency power systems. We are providing regular updates through our website at http://www.datagram.com
Notices:
- 10/30 14:42: ConEd and city workers are currently outside of 33 Whitehall doing an amazing job working to restore services. There are currently at least five pumps pumping water from the basement into the street.
- 10/30 12:37: Water continues to be pumped from the basement. Many other buildings are beginning to do the same.
- 10/30 11:53: The building has slowly begun to pump water out of the basement. They are unable to provide an ETA however.
- 10/30 11:20: We are still flooded, as soon as the basement is cleared we will be allowed to operate the generator and restore power.
- 10/30 09:07: Downtown NY is still underwater. Mayor Bloomberg is giving an address at 9:45am.
- 10/30 08:49: We are currently waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to assist in pumping out water.
- 10/30 05:34: We are continuing to battle flooding and fiber outages in downtown New York and Connecticut. Verizon and other carriers in the area are down as well. Generators are unable pump fuel due to the flooding in the basements. Downed trees are causing fiber outages all across the northeast. We will provide updates as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

I just read on Drudge the President and Fema offered no numbers to call for help when you have in been in this kind of storm. The only thing they offered was go to the internet.
If that doesn’t tell you how little these people care about you; nothing will.

They won't be down long, but they won't be missed. They won't be missed by us but I am sure the DNC doesn't like having it's propaganda machine crippled this close to the election. On top of that, how are the nags at Jezebel going to vent their frustrations at the injustice of the evil white patriarchy without an internet connection?

On top of that, how are the nags at Jezebel going to vent their frustrations at the injustice of the evil white patriarchy without an internet connection? Dang, you beat me to it. I like to browse their site on occasion. Like all snarky sites, they're good at getting outraged at things that are fairly outrageous, but they're also good at ranting idiotically about trivial matters. It's the latter discussions that are highly entertaining.

Well - they still have, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, PBS, hundreds of leftist newspapers and perhaps thousands of lefty radio shows to work with.
I'd hardly call them crippled exactly... but, I'm sure they're crying anyway.

Putting data centers in coastal locations is just asking for trouble. Yes. Much better to have them in tornado alley, the snow-belt, somewhere long a fault line or where wild fires are prone to happen.
Really not trying to be snarky, but my point is there is nearly no place in this country that isnt prone to some sort of natural disaster.
