I laughed out loud at the “unfairly mocked campaign speech” about the waters receding line.

I do enjoy liberals crying their eyes out over Obama. Brings a little warmth to my belly.

“What he’s missing is simply that 0bama did not live up to his fantasies.”

Very true and well stated.

JFK’s blundering diplomacy in Laos left the path open for Viet Minh supplies to flow to the south along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Except for the Cuban crisis, The Soviets played him like a fiddle. He was left with going to IKE at Gettysburg to get advice about what to do. If Ike, or even Nixon had been President, there would have been no mess in Vietnam.

Cohen is a classic old time New Left 60's liberal who never got over his crush on the Kennedys. Here we see him poignantly yearning for a past that never was, and a future that never would have been. Pathetic, in a banal sort of way.

The war on poverty failed because it was waged the way liberals wage war against our enemies; they are unwilling or unable to attack the key targets. In this case their own big government programs that stress self esteem, political correctness, and victimhood instead of personal responsibility, hard work, education, and morality.

"Just be glad we're not going to round you up and stick you in a re-education camp, you loathsome little worm."

What? Damn. I read where that was in the First 100 Days to-do list.

“What a delusional man. I almost, note almost ‘feel’ sorry for him.”

Poor little Dick Cohen, his liberal ideology and hopes crushed as always by reality. I find it usually takes the libs 10 or 20 years to learn what is blindingly obvious to conservatives. They optimistically run headlong off the cliff, ignorning the barriers and warning signs, and then are shocked when when they faceplant into the rocks.

Cohen is a sad case. What he's missing is simply that 0bama did not live up to his fantasies.

Cohen is apparently without any self-awareness whatever.

Consider his stated reasons for admiring Bobby Kennedy and Obama. Superficialities all.

The only reason he still adores Bobby Kennnedy is because RFK didn't live long enough to disappoint him.

Liberalism is a fantasy world.

Barack Obama is a selfish, self-obsessed oaf. Gee, who knew? Um, anybody who was paying attention during the first election?

Well!

Seldom have I seen an obituary published in a major newspaper a full week before the announcement of the death!

Despite my many disagreements with what is written, this is a remarkable article from Cohen.

You are fortunate indeed. The liberals I know are so cemented to liberalism it is akin to a religious experience. And there is nothing optimistic about their persona. My ears still ring over the obsessive rants about that evil George Bush. I actually think liberalism is a mental disorder.

This is not an article of celebration or information.

This is an Obituary.

” When it comes to the underclass, we are out of ideas ... or patience.” How about “out of money?” We never lacked for “ideas,” virtually all of them bad, and they bankrupted us.

Public education has been liberals tool to create the underclass. The amount of money spent on education in this nation should have provided the path to prosperity, but no. Our children have been schooled in majority the road map to victim hood and diversity thereby creating a majority of covetous, lazy, spoiled brats.

I once wondered if Obama could be another RFK. The president has great political skills and a dazzling smile. He and his wife are glamorous figures. He's a black man, and that matters greatly. He remains a startling figure for a nation that was still segregating its schools when I was growing up ...

Cohen lives in some kind of strange alternative reality.

It sounds like he thought that Obama could do anything because he was Black, but didn't have the qualities that Harry Reid and Joe Biden associated with most African-Americans.

That's actually a pretty patronizing way of looking at Obama, at African-Americans, and at the world.

His thinking seems to be "I voted for Obama because I assumed who he was was itself a cause, an issue, a policy program. It turned out that having dark skin and an African father didn't in itself mean Barack Obama had or was any of those things, and I'm disappointed, even though Obama really didn't give me any clear indication that he actually had or was much of a program or a cause when he ran for president."

Bobby Kennedy did have a program -- or he had or was associated with all kinds of programs -- but the real appeal of the Kennedys was always who they were. The appeal was to be governed by attractive people in an attractive manner and the policies were tacked on to that.

And of course, the reason why Bobby still appeals to Cohen is that he didn't get elected -- he didn't get a chance to prove what he couldn't do, or to sell out.

obama has ensured that another black democrat will not be elected president for five centuries.

The taste he left is so vile, so racist and so Marxist that the word obama now takes the place of the boogeyman hiding under the bed.

Racist.

All these guys really, really want Bobby Kennedy. They wanted, and still want, Bobby in the White House, slapping down cracker senators and jailing Kluxers and Mafiosi, stirring everyone with great speeches to follow him into the sunny highlands of liberal virtue and self-righteousness.

They got the dream when Richard Nixon fell, and they carried both houses of Congress and the White House. They had it all, and we found out what Bobby Kennedy's wonderland looked like in the Real World. It looked like the Carter presidency. And America promptly elected Ronald Reagan.

".....I'm disappointed, even though Obama really didn't give me any clear indication that he actually had or was much of a program or a cause when he ran for president."

Good call.

Daschle told us, the whole idea was to use Obama as a movie screen and let people project onto him all their hopes, dreams, and desires. It worked. But the real policies had to come from somewhere, and they ended up coming from a Red cadre around Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

Cohen is still projecting on dead Bobby Kennedy -- only he and the rest of the political elitists either don't realize it, don't admit it, and/or don't care.

The point about the Kennedys ruling wisely and ruling well is a very key one.

The "Imperial Presidency" didn't come out of nowhere. It was carefully built up by Democrat solons throughout the 50's according to the specifications of men like James Macgregor Burns and Arthur Schlesinger, as they construed Good Government and, more importantly, the Good Prince -- who resembled Franklin D. Roosevelt a lot and happened, like FDR, to be a post-republican leader. The Imperial Presidency was built to be Jack Kennedy's Principate, passed to Bobby, then Ted, then Worthy Others, who would rule in a cloud of glory and presumptive virtue, displacing the old federal republic forever.

Dick Nixon rammed it up their ass.

Another idiot writer who was too blind to see the obvious in 2008.

"Eyes Wide Shut" is more like it.
