(Penn State former football coach Jerry) Sandusky moved to prison with death row inmates

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky on Wednesday was sent to serve his child molestation prison sentence at an institution in far southwestern Pennsylvania that includes most of the state's death row inmates.

The Corrections Department said Sandusky was transferred to Greene State Prison after being evaluated at a facility outside Harrisburg. Prison officials said he will be housed in protective custody.

"We make individual decisions based on facts," Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said in a written statement. "Given the high profile nature of this individual, coupled with the nature of his crimes, this makes him very vulnerable in a prison setting."

Sandusky, 68, was convicted this summer of 45 criminal counts for sexual abuse of 10 boys over 15 years. He has maintained his innocence and is pursuing appeals.

The 30- to 60-year sentence imposed Oct. 9 means he faces the likelihood of dying in prison.

He will not have a cellmate and will be subject to heightened supervision and an escort when not in his cell. He will get an hour of individual exercise five days a week and three showers a week.

He will eat meals in his cell. Prison services such as counseling, religion, medications and treatment programming will also occur in his cell.

All visits will be non-contact, meaning no touching is allowed. He may have a TV, radio and other property, according to the Corrections Department, if he is deemed to be in "compliant adjustment."

Yep. That's the way it works. As a favor to an old friend, I worked for a time as a consultant physician at a maximum security prison. I was there one day per month for about a year. This is how they live. The cell is the size of a closet. They get out for an hour a day and when they are out, they are alone in a small indoor area. They have one small slit in the cell door. That's it. I know these guys deserve this and more. But think about it, I know I would choose death over that existence.

Lots more spent when he was on the loose. Greene County is one of the more remote locations in the SCI system. Lots of moonshining still going on in the back roads not far from Waynesburg.

I will bet that IF Sandusky sees this Christmas, he will not see the next one.

I know God says we should forgive, but sometimes a situation just makes you want to wish a painful, slow acting, terminal cancer on someone.

If they ask for forgiveness from the base of their soul, then they are forgiven. That means their soul is saved. Their ass stays in prison.

Coming from his position in life it will be a very rough stint for him but as you say rough for anyone.

Thanks for the first hand insight on what the coniditions are like.

Yes, The death penalty would be preferable If it didn’t take about 14 years of appeals.
