"I think there are many here who decry those who refuse to help themselves by planning and preparing, not those who could not do so."

Exactly! Think on the logistical help it would be to the first responders if only 20% of the people have made provisions to be able help themselves for a week to ten days? How much more that would leave for those truly in need? And there are plenty of aholes that make trouble for those of us that prepare for such eventualities. Check out a prepper thread sometime.

I would think that enough people have seen some of those TV series of after a disaster, even without zombies people are constantly dirty, thirsty and cold.

There was probably some small amount of education learned in those shows. First off the Feds will collapse, the strong survive especially those with evil inside them, the good often don’t have the balls to deal with evil because they have been indoctrinated for years to not fight back.

To survive one must be mentally prepared for the worst scenario, every minute, every day, combat mode in effect, the weal either will man up....

Or die. They can drag down the strong ones just like a crazed drowning victim.

In summary I strongly suggest everyone adapt to a complete and total independence way of survival, because in a really bad situation there will be nobody to cry for help to. You will have to figure out how to survive, how to defend yourself if necessary and how to reconstruct a better society.

I think something many preppers haven't necessarily considered is that all the preps in the world do you no good if they are under flood water.

Never keep all your eggs in one basket.

A couple of caches of supplies for a couple of days, a bugout bag set for 72 hours (and yes, that's 25 lbs of water, too--for one, in cool weather) can make a huge difference.
