NORMAN — Don’t look for too many Norman residents openly carrying firearms today. There may be a few, but other states that have enacted open carry statutes say the novelty soon wears off.

The statue goes into effect today, allowing an estimated 141,000 Oklahomans with a license to carry a concealed weapon to openly display them in a holster or belt. Norman police explained their procedures to a packed house Monday at city hall.

KEYWORDS: banglist; emergency; ok; opencarry
Oklahoma becomes the 43th state that recognizes the right to carry arms openly. Fifteen of those states infringe on the right by requiring a permit for open carry.

Seven states defy the Constitution and do not allow Open carry. Those states are California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas,Illinois, and New York.

The California law is fairly recent, and there are efforts to reform the law in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina.

It is hard to see that open carry reform could not pass in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina.

A loaded gun, in Oklahoma, was a cartridge in the clip.
In Texas, a loaded gun is one in the chamber.

Just wondering about any changes in that fine point, but legal definition in the new Oklahoma law?

Here in Colorado open carry is legal without a license or permit. To bad they need a permit to open carry.

A deputy sheriff I know in Oklahoma was making fun of the open carry law on Facebook today, as was one of his big-city-cop buddies.

I said there's a time & a place for open carry, and congratulated Oklahomans for winning back more of their God-given rights.

He next went on to tell me that rights were given by soldiers, and his cop buddy said they were given by the Founding Fathers.

God help us.

I tried to tell them. To no avail.

Someday, hopefully before I die, Virginia will have concealed-carry without permit.

Very good question! Very good question.

Relative to what I was using at the time, a police officer at that great indoor gun range in OKC told me of the definition I posted.

I don’t have a VA permit, but I believe the open-carry law permits a full cylinder.
