What’s Chris Christie up to?
Daily Caller ^ | November 1, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

Posted on 11/01/2012 9:41:13 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

With six days to go before Election Day, The Hill reports that President Obama will appear with Chris Christie, “who will be giving the president a tour of the damage in his state in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.”

New Jersey is a blue state, but this sends a pretty strong message, nationally. As Salon’s Steve Kornacki opines: ”This is exactly the sort of cross-partisan boost that candidates dream of receiving in a race’s final days, especially a race as close as this one.”

Coming on the heels of Christie’s tweet which said, “I don’t give a damn about Election Day after what has happened here,” Christie’s over-the-top embrace of Obama has many observers scratching their heads.

It’s important to put things in context. New Jersey was slammed with a deadly storm, and President Obama has — by all counts — executed his duties appropriately. New Jersey is obviously seeking federal assistance, and regardless, Christie should be gracious and respectful to the president.

The question is whether — with just days left before Election Day — Christie should have gone out of his way to lavish praise on Obama, and to provide him with a terrific photo-op for which to look presidential.

Check Christie’s back pockets after O leaves, they’ll be full of bills and they won’t be utility bills.

exactly, Christie should have kept his big mouth shut and told oabma to piss off right now as it takes resources away from places which need it.

It;s all gone to crap in NJ right now, tempers flying and in NJ they’re not used to shortage of power etc like we are down here.
After a week then Christie should have said what he thought and how oama is doing or not doing.

it amazes me how a couple on here think Christie can do no wrong but hey the left is loving this the media is spinning this so all is good for oabma while he goes and tries to get more votes

This whole Christie/Obama thing is a perfect example of BS government at work.

Christie goes on numerous TV shows and says Obama has been “outstanding”. Not once did I hear any specific - no reference to a particular program, or red tape Obama waived for NJ. Just the blanket statement taht Obama was “outstanding”.

Don’t you think if Obama had done anything out of the ordinary, Christie would have repeated the details? There are none.

Fema has certain cookie cutter programs. Did you see Obama divert any navy ships to help? I mean please, there is nothing behind this BS. And yes, Christie is a very crafty politician with strong survival instincts.

Christie is nothing more than a cynical politician. He’s more shocked than the rest of NJ? The rest of the people of NJ? Really? The people who lost their homes?

NJ will recover, but not because Christie gave Obama a photo op 6 days before the election. He just wants to have a commercial for the next election.

Yeah, Obama gives a crap that most of the boardwalks along the shore have been washed away. Do you really think Christie is going to take on the unions who will take the FEMA money and waste it? He’s already shown he won’t.

He goes after soft unions. He’s no Scott Walker. He’s the worst of the worst in that he actually fools people into thinking he gives a crap about anyone but himself.

I’ll be donating to the charities, who will help rebuild NJ. Nobody’s waiting on the criminal unions and the federal government or NJ’s tallest, fattest, midget.

The man is like obama with this, they think they’re messiah’s and only they can help us peasants

I watched Bobby Jindal during Katrina and after. He came on and kept spitting out DETAILS like a machine. For over an hour at a time. Christie and Obama traded the word “outstanding” and hugged people.

gotribe: Christie was setting him up it would appear. Saying obama has been stupendous and all. When in fact, the situation is deteriorating by the minute. So Christie set up the expectations and reality is knocking the Federal response down to earth. Lots of pissed off voters thinking obama was on top of things, and now he’s not.

Maybe so, but it wasn't necessarily a premeditated nefarious strategy.

New Jersey, by urban composition, is more likely to end up like Katrina than the self-healing mid-west tornadoes and floods and central Texas fires in Obie's term.

So NJ could turn out to be a CF in short order.

If Christie puts a lot of distance between himself and the Feds, the Feds/Dems can blame him.

If he's got Obie in a disgusting sloppy bear hug, then the fumbling is "the government."

Keep your friends close and enemies closer?

imagine getting a hug off him after he;s been walking for 1 minute?
Yuck.

The feds have done nothing and yet oabma gets praise, all abma said was no red tape etc, well he;s had 4 years and never got rid of red tape.
NJ is going to crap and may up there have short tempers as it is but wiht no gas, no power, no eating out for them, no ordering takeout etc then they are really royally pissed off but I’m guessing the media will not report this either and funny how the media are not asking where were the feds before the storm, where were the FEMA trailers

We’re used to storms here , may which never get on the news like this year but we also know what to do and how to live after the power goes off for two weeks etc.

Totally ridiculous story and assumption perhaps Christie is doing something wrong which may hurt Romney.

People are in pain and they’re is great suffering in NJ. To believe Christie should ignore or nitpick the Administration response and Obama is IMO dumb. If he did this he would indeed do damage both to himself and Romney because he would be roundly criticized for putting politics ahead of the pain and suffering of his own citizens.

Thanks for your response. I live in central NJ and I'm no fan of Christie; he is rightly doing what needs to be done. Not only working with the Feds but getting help from other governors across the country. The Media is not reporting how badly NJ got slammed.

I just had to run a quick local errand and what I saw made the problems from the freak snow storm last Halloween look like a piece of cake. No gas stations open. Massive trees down everywhere, often wrapped in a power line. The bank had limited service. Many side streets blocked off with police tape (downed power lines). A traffic jam at local food store that was open.

I'm extremely fortunate ... only lost power for a few hours and the only damage was to a shed; no water from the surge. This despite two huge tree limbs that flew in and take up most of the back yard.

Ha! Most people would walk up to the FEMA trailers and order a fat cat or a hot dog.

“Forget it, Jake, it’s New Jersey.”

Joisey, Christie just wants to finish his collection of presidential portraits.

Chicago to Joisey, doesn't take a genius.

Christie is being the governor.......infact doing a good job.

Those who chide him for providing on site tour for the President of the United States are being very short sighted. The President must see the chaos to respond at all.

If there is to be criticism of the tour, it should be directed to Senator Lautenberg. He showed up in a suit and long rain coat rather than a blue jacket and chinos

He didn’t need to go overboard and praise Obama and his failed policies as he did.

Only if they ignored the republican governor's words of praise of Obama.

He is up for reelection next year and he has also seen the president ignore disasters in states that are not obama friendly.

This man has good points but has some anger issues. I mean, all of a sudden he doesn’t give a damn about the very surival of our nation because of their local disaster? Oh boy...he is as big as my bath tub too for heaven sakes! He needs to calm down and stop eating those crispy cremes!
