Big Government "Conservatives," might make sense in a Monarchy, but it is an oxymoron in an American Republic. Our fundamental ethos is dependent upon individual responsibility, strong local communities (remember the Committees of Correspondence in the Revolution) & absolutely no Federal role in dictating cultural or social norms. The Constitution carefully defines the Federal functions--and none of those functions relate to dictating cultural values to the States & local communities.

For an effort to address the cultural divide, Alternative Views.

Don’t you know, it’s the tone of what you say. If they don’t like the tone, it’s violence. The whole hate speech industry is built on that.

Saying "a pox on both your houses" is a cop-out. Are you positing a Third Way?

And to what are you referring when you say "If you are a free-individual believer, test that belief against what you would prohibit others from doing. How does it directly harm *you*?"

In 1994, I would have agreed with you. Today, not so much. In the last few years I’ve even seen a number of calls for the repeal of the 21st Amendment. That’s an issue that I thought was settled once and for all.

They are setting the stage to waive a bunch of bloody shirts. Look for the UN poll watchers to issue a report saying Obama got SCROOOOOOD by racism.

Yes it true. His racism is what will bring him down.

At 92, that’s unlikely. Although possible. The proto-hippy Jack Kerouac would only be two years younger.

Interesting site. However, the author lost me with the racial overtones in many of the articles. It reminded me of the stealth racism found in groups like the CoCC.

Don't insult my intelligence. There is no serious call of any size for repeal of the 21st Amendment. You can find a few nuts here and there calling for anything...but really? That the best you got?

I know exactly what you mean. Short of threats promising real violence, I just can’t associate violence with words. But I’m old enough to have heard “sticks and stones” thousands of times before leaving grade school.

Conservatives need to pound home the idea that liberals are ethically and morally crippled.

Typically, when they do so, they phrase it in religious terms, and while this is technically accurate, it allows liberals to both curse religion and pretend religious, or lack of religious persecution.

So instead, conservatives need to point out that liberals are, from a *secular* point of view, ethically and morally crippled.

To effect that, “Just because you do not believe in God is no excuse for you to behave like brutish animals.”

This matters, because liberals have long cherished the idea that the lives of animals are *better* than the lives of humans.

“Animals are as one with nature.”

“Animals are amoral, they do not believe in good or evil.”

“Animals are sexually “free”, without repercussions to their sexual behavior. They can choose any kind of sexuality they like, as all such sexuality is “normal”.

“Humans are overpopulated and must be returned to the ‘state of nature’, by killing off 90% of them, and stripping the rest of technology, history and learning, so they remain like animals. Except, of course, for the elites who keep them that way.”

etc., ad nauseum.

Liberals need to be taught that these philosophies, and more, are indeed evil, and cruel, and stupid, no matter how much they want them.

I met my wife outside the store later and was telling her what I saw ans she heard me and...

Be honest, you meant for her to hear. You recount far too many stories of encounters with strangers for it to be unintentional that many times.

What I see today that is worse in division than in the past, is that Americans used to at least agree about the constitution being the rule of the land.

We differed on what it meant; but no one threw it in the trash and named themselves smarter and better than America’s constitutionally designed government like liberals are doing today.

Without that fabric of freedom’s basic ideology which wove Americans together, there is nothing. If conservatives exist in power, the ideals of liberalism’s marxist ideals dies. If liberals survive in power, the American Republic dies. Globalists like us being weak like this.

And here I didn't even realize I was being argumentative. I'm not sure why or how, but you've certainly taken something I've said out of the spirit in which I said it.

When you elect a president who denies American exceptionalism, then in a sense you’ve proved his point, haven’t you?

We are slowly taking on the features of a sclerotic Euro-state. We now have government health care, the last piece of the puzzle will be a VAT. Our debt levels already resemble those of the failing Eurostates.

The only major difference between us and Germany or France is that we have a very large pro-liberty political movement, but it is one is long-term decline. (If you doubt this, just imagine telling your typical voter in 1988 that in 25 years the Democrats would nominate a black radical with open Communist ties to the presidency and that conservatives would be fighting to win states like Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina).

I believe that the chasm will only grow. By the 2030s at the latest, there will be a serious secessionist movement afoot in this country. You can see the beginnings of it in our recent elections, in which two-thirds of the states are already solidly red or blue, with little or no contest. A nation not united by blood needs some set of values to unify it. Without that unifying set of values, we aren’t one nation.

Out of curiosity, what do you say when the liberal in question doesn't behave a like a brutish animal?
