Live Free . . . Or Die

The Corner

The one and only.

Live Free . . . Or Die By Mark Steyn November 6, 2012 11:03 P.M.

As disappointing for me as Mitt losing New Hampshire has been the down-ticket races in the Granite State. In 2010, Republicans won both House seats, the Senate seat, three-quarters of State Reps, 80 percent of State Senate seats, and 100 percent of the Executive Council. Two years later, Democrats have taken the governorship and may well take both House seats, and the vote tallies they’re racking up in hardcore plaid-clad North Country towns far from the Massachusetts border are remarkable.

A lot of the telly chatter is about how Republicans don’t get the shifting demographics: America is becoming more of a “brown country,” as Kirsten Powers put it on Fox. But New Hampshire is overwhelmingly white — and the GOP still blew it. The fact is a lot of pasty, Caucasian, non-immigrant Americans have also “shifted,” and are very comfortable with Big Government, entitlements, micro-regulation, Obamacare and all the rest — and not much concerned with how or if it’s paid for.

If this is the way America wants to go off the cliff, so be it. But I wish we’d at least had a Big Picture election. The motto of the British SAS is “Who dares wins.” The Republicans chose a different path. A play-it-safe don’t-frighten-the-horses strategy may have had a certain logic, but it’s unworthy of the times.

The quicker this thing breaks, the faster we can put it back together!

Let the party begin.

The mi-to-late-term babyboomers have won; by sheer strength of numbers.

In the 60s and 70s, they threw tantrums (aka, protests) and begged the government to run their lives and make decisions for them.

The hippies have won and along the way, convinced their children that government oversight is better than hard work and self-determination.

Uh, no. Romney actually carried this age group. Where he got smoked was with the under-30 crowd and Latinos.

BS. Stop the blame the Boomers crap. Previous generations started this downward spiral with FDR, LBJ, Big Labor, etc. Previous generations also gave us what ultimately doomed this country - government control of education.

Mr. Steyn,

I cannot be any more ashamed to be from New Hampshire than I am today....I got out of Massachusetts for this very reason, the lack of intelligence of the voting public.

I am so disheartened that it has encroached on and completely enveloped the Granite State.

Not sure where to go from here..

“republicans don't get changing demographics’....

No...the demographics don't get the United States, Liberty, Freedom, Self-determination, The Constitution or the Bill of Rights and all the blessings they entail.

Wasn't Mark Steyn constantly ripping on the more conservative, less "play-it-safe" candidates (Cain, Gingrich) during the GOP primaries?

We're not nearly as far gone as Massachusetts (where I also came here from), but we are certainly well on the way to proclaiming "we're all socialists now" and casting off those annoying, nit-picky Constitutional constraints that prevent our Glorious Government from being all it can be.

Carol Shea-Porter is once again my CongressCreep and she will now be joined by the ever-lovely Annie (Stalin's Last Stand) Kuster, and to top off the steaming pile of dog crap that the voters of New Hampshire delivered to the taxpayers' doors last night, our new Governor is likewise yet another hyper-partisan moonbat,

I feel like throwing up this morning.

Conservatives should be proud of what they did in some New Hampshire towns, where conservative candidates and ideas won with good margins. I’m not going to be ashamed because some college students and their liberal faculty, or a bunch of transplanted New Yorkers in Portsmouth voted the way they do. No more than conservative Nevada voters should be ashamed because Las Vegas is now full of unionized liberals who moved in there.

I'm going to pat myself on the back here...

Every single Red Hampshire Freeper beat me up over this, but I kept screaming that this state was not conservative...they defended the 'red wave' of 'Republicans' that was swept into the legislature in 2010...everybody was calling good 'ol NH for Mitt Romney. I said you people do not understand how much NH women LOVE NARAL and Planned Parenthood...they embrace abortion with a cult-like fervor...they do NOT like Christians...I predicted that Obama would win, and that NH would send TWO pro-abortion women to Congress, and place another in the State House. EVERY pundit and Freeper was wrong about NH...every last one.

Once again...if you are conservative, and you have the assets and desire to do so; get out of New England while you still can.
