WALTON, KY. — One of the six seats for the Walton City Council is undetermined after two people on the ballot tied for sixth place.
The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/S0yTyk) reported that Robert McDonald and Olivia Ballou each received 669 votes.
Boone County Clerk Kenny Brown said he is seeking guidance from the state Board of Elections, but it would appear that a coin mighty determine who serves in the seat.
"I am waiting for clarification from the State Board of Elections, but we are pretty sure the (Kentucky Revised Code) says a tie is resolved by a coin toss," Brown said.
He said either candidate may ask for a recanvass of votes.
Brown said if the Tuesday deadline for a recanvass passes without such a request, officials will then set a date to flip a coin.
McDonald said it was a valuable lesson about the importance of every vote. He said his wife, Katie, didn't make it to the polls.
"If she had just been able to get in to vote, we wouldn't be going through any of this," McDonald said. "You never think it will come down to one vote, but I'm here to tell you that it does."

Who won the toss?
Doesn’t seem to have happened yet.
“McDonald said his wife feels bad about the situation.
‘She worked extra hours, goes to school and we have three kids, so I don’t blame her. She woke up about ten minutes before the polls closed and asked if she should run up, but I told her I didn’t think one vote would matter.’”
Candidate didn’t think his wife’s vote would matter. It did.
