Sandy: Tempers heated among New Yorkers still in the cold
CBS ^

rally was scheduled on Long Island Saturday for fed-up utility customers to voice their frustration about still being without power nearly two weeks after superstorm Sandy struck, CBS Station WCBS reports.

Many residents will spend their 13th day in the dark and cold Saturday, and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel

Compared to some in the area, we made out fine. We have a couple of small towns/communities that are half gone. But there was no loss of life and only a few injuries, so in the long run we fared much better that you all in NY and NJ.

I’m originally from Brooklyn, so my face book page has been full of accounts from my friends in NY & NJ - both good and bad.

Prayers continue from here to you.

“schools being used for morgues”

. . .

Are they still recovering bodies?

I imagine with as cold as it’s gotten there, people who refuse or are unable to leave for whatever reason are going to start freezing to death.

I didn’t mean to sound pissy....if I did, sorry. My bff’s brother was supposed to run in the marathon and sent out an email whining about how yes people are suffering now, but just like after 9/11, we all came together and next year we’ll run it for Sandy, blah blah blah.

Talked about the people who were going to be out “protesting” the marathon and he was very “saddened” by that.

The whole thing just irked me...still does.

Cuomo said last night, ‘New York hasn’t had hurricanes before. (because of global warming) Now we do’.

Really, Cuomo? New York has had 84 hurricanes since the 17th Century.

He’s an idiot! In 1985 we had Hurricane Gloria. She was a 3 or 4. She didn’t take us out like Sandy did.

I don’t think we were without power for more than a few days, certainly not more than a week.

Before Gloria, maybe it was the 70’s? I’d have to look it up. We have had hurricanes before. With most of them on the east coast, we lucked out. This time we didn’t. I hate these people more and more each day.

This idiot does not realize this was the perfect storm in which hit us upside the head. High tide, full moon, warm storm coliding with a cold storm, who decided to stay and spin around as well.

That was before the election. Obviously He knew what was going to happen, so He hit us again after the election.

Sorry for my rant.

For the first of many times the next four years, I say to these people: YOU VOTED FOR THIS. YOU VOTED FOR THIS. Your hero is out golfing today while you freeze. Enjoy.

F... them and the horses they rode in on. They voted for Obama by a huge margin. Let Obama and Big Government help them. By the way, my wife and I donated food for these people. Never again.

Thank you. I heard about some being turned away because they weren’t union. Do you know where that was?

“I know they would not have helped everyone, but they could have helped some.”

It was on tv news that each generator could have restored power to 400 family homes.

I was just saying they needed one of those big generators for every block or half block.

On Long Island, I have friends in Oceanside, Island Park, and then other friends in Roselyn Heights, Brookville, Matinecock - those North Shore towns are a mess and utility crews haven’t even gone there once yet.

They were right to cancel the Marathon because they would have been running right through lower Manhattan where there was no power, water, transportation, etc.

And 9/11 was a different thing altogether, we didn’t want to show terrorists that they changed our way of life.

Cuomo is an idiot, may e we haven’t had one with this much damage in his lifetime, but there have been many here over the years.

Just the early reports. Our guys working over there, are allowed to work. Even though AZ is a right to work state, I’m assuming all the AZ guys (as my dad was), were members if IBEW. But honestly, who cares if they are union or not if they are donating their time to come help? (guess some union guys do, but tough)

I know every contingency can be taken care of, but at least a basic set of generators, MREs, tents, heaters, portapotties, bulldozers, etc.

I was listening to the news on KSFO, and there he was. Streaming over the airwaves/computer, being interviewed.
