Boehner Tells House G.O.P. to Fall in Line
ny times ^ | 11/10/2012 | By JONATHAN WEISMAN and JENNIFER STEINHAUER

On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the party’s electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose.

Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.

Members on the call, subdued and dark, murmured words of support — even a few who had been a thorn in the speaker’s side for much of this Congress.

It was a striking contrast to a similar call last year, when Mr. Boehner tried to persuade members to compromise with Democrats on a deal to extend a temporary cut in payroll taxes, only to have them loudly revolt.

With President Obama re-elected and Democrats cementing control of the Senate, Mr. Boehner will need to capitalize on the chastened faction of the House G.O.P. that wants to cut a deal to avert sudden tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts in January that could send the economy back into recession. After spending two years marooned between the will of his loud and fractious members and the Democratic Senate majority, the speaker is trying to assert control, and many members seem to be offering support.

No more running Conservative candidates against Republicans in the primaries, run them in the General Election even if it gives the Rats more seats if we lose. The GOP has alienated us for the last time. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NO, NO, NO! We have to run RINOs! If we don't all vote for the RINO then the Dems will win. Oh, wait a minute..............

Exactly! Running our Conservatives in the primaries against RINOs has backfired. The RINOs always have the right Washington Speak and end up getting nominated on the crossover votes.
The GOP is dead for all practical purposes so Conservatives have nothing to gain and everything to lose by being married to them.

...we need to get a new establishment. Our local and state republican parties are getting new executive committees in the next couple of months. Time to get to work.
That's the answer right there.

Conservative republicans need to get involved on the local level.

It shouldn't be that hard to get in leadership positions in those areas and turn the tide.

Or another approach is to go Galt and stop pulling the wagon full of looters. Minimize your income, don't expand or close down in the face of ever higher taxes fees and permits. Sign up for government benefits wherever possible. Collapse the beast. This will not end well, but we can't pull back for the present course without great pain and sacrifice.

End open primaries. Only Republicans can nominate our candidates.

After pondering this loss and watching years of the betrayal of Conservatives by the GOP establishment, I have decided to throw my hat in the ring. I will not run in the Primaries against a RINO, I will seek to get my name on the General Ballot. I will seek to win but in the case I don't, I will enjoy assisting in making the GOP the way of the Whigs.

I agree with Rush. Give the Rats everything they want. They cannot blame Republicans for obstruction. They own it.

However, I would first submit the Ryan Plan, let Reed “table” it.

Then submit a Flat Tax. Reed will “table” it. Republicans say that progressive taxation protects corruption and cronyism.

Let Obama’s bill come for a vote in the House, all republicans vote: “PRESENT”.

We need conservatives that are polished candidates, skilled politicians and happy warriors.

Perfect, utterly perfect. This must be our theme starting now. 2014 is rapidly approaching along with all kinds of state and local races. Let's make the 10th Amendment count by holding on to states and capturing more localities.

TN has an excellent chance to become the Hong Kong of America with GOP control. I hope they do it.

Fred, you are exactly right, this is NY Times wishful thinking more than anything...

here is blog from a democrat who advises corporate clients on what is happening in DC. he realizes that the debt ceiling comes before the vote for speaker, and that Boehner cannot cave if he wants to remain speaker

http://www.capitalgainsandgames.com/blog/stan-collender/2657/boehner-clearly-fears-his-job-speaker

after the shock of the election, i think it’s good for conservatives who were isolated in the “conservative bubble” to get out a bit and read some other sources. but crap from the NYT is not the place to start

The Era of the White Guy is over. Ted Cruz/Marco Rubio (or Susana Martinez, and not necessarily in that order) 2016. All our efforts over the next 4 years should build to this eventuality.

How will GOP be rebuilt?

Who cares. The GOP is dead to me. I will never again hold my nose and vote for a Dole/McCain/Romney type ever again. And the folks who are already floating Jeb - like a gas filled turd in a bowl - can kissmyass.

If the GOP really wanted to win, the first thing they would do is fire Rove.

You don't think Boehner is telling the GOP, including Conservatives, to get in line?
He is trying to bully his way to maintain his Speaker seat instead of leading. NY Times opinion aside, Boehner will demand The GOP get in line of the big ‘compromise” where we get nothing in return.

“No more running Conservative candidates against Republicans in the primaries, “

You’re real concerned about RINOs having to worry about being primaried.
But I’d expect that from someone who believes what’s printed in the NYTimes.

Me, I’m glad good conservatives like Ted Yoho ran and won.
But I guess his primary ad made NYTimes worshipper like you cry:

It’s the era of European Socialism. It’s not going to matter who the GOP nominates because the only way to win is to offer more “freebies” to the minority communities.
A Conservative Hispanic nominee will be thrown to the curb just like anyone else that doesn’t offer the Hispanic, Black, Oriental Communities the “freebies”.
