In an imaginary world, government does things efficiently and economically. In that world, you would want government to provide health care.
In the real world, politicians cobbled together a monstrous piece of legislation called Obamacare, with a structure that cannot possibly be efficient or economical.
John C. Goodman at Townhall.com has a superb analysis of what Obamacare will do when reality comes up to bat.
If you read this at the source, you will see links to other supporting information. John Goodman:
The morning after Tuesdays vote, there is one thing every commentator agreed on. The election of Barack Obama guaranteed that his signature piece of legislation health reform can now go forward. Republicans are powerless to stop it.
Yet there is something all these commentators are overlooking. There are six major flaws in ObamaCare. They are so serious that the Democrats are going to have to perform major surgery on the legislation in the next few years, even if all the Republicans do is stand by and twiddle their thumbs.
Here is a brief overview.
ObamaCare is not paid for. At least its not paid for in any politically realistic way. As is by now well known, the legislation will lower Medicare spending over the next 10 years by $716 billion in order to fund health insurance for young people. This reduction will primarily consist of lower payments to physicians, hospitals and other providers reductions that are so severe that they will seriously impair access to care for senior citizens.

Even if Romney had prevailed in the election and the GOP had won control of the Senate, the law would have not been repealed. Tweaked maybe, but not repealed. As others in this thread have so aptly pointed out, the law is not about health care but rather money, power, and control by whatever ever party happens to be in office.
Wrong.
Dems could have hired a monkey and put a sign around his neck saying, "It's Bush's Fault" and the MSM would have run with it. Dems don't have to do an "excellent job' any more than the teacher's pet has to do an excellent job. Do you think the 'favored child' of narcissistic hateful parents has 'earned' the revered spot?
Were you born yesterday?
The boys at the New York Times don't have to be 'convinced' they've got their Obama knee pads on, their mouths are open and their eyes are closed...
I don’t know what would have happened if Romney was elected.I think he would have overturned Obamacare. What would it have been replaced with? I don’t know.
But, the people responsible for this mess also, are we conservatives. We had candidates willing to step up and we demonized and shot them all down. We aided and abetted the MSM in the destruction of our own.
It was shameful, Who ever steps up next time is really wasting their time and energy. First place, they would have to be working at it yesterday. They can’t beat a dem machine with no big backing of money and national support. It is one thing to have people like you and what you say, but if you can’t put together a machine as Reagan did between the 1st time when he lost and the second time he ran. You lose.
It is impossible to fight the dem hate ads with no money. It is going to take even longer to come up with a billion now. Let’s also not forget that with amnesty and an open border, our chances are very slim to impossible. Even if we kowtow and let amnesty pass, they will vote for the free loot.
This Obamacare is gonna be a real hoot. They will be coming across that border in droves. I am no longer young. The more that come, the sooner Obamacare will force my death.
I don’t think so. He was quite busy embracing enough of it, that it would’ve survived in large part. He was not a small government politician.
I actually do belive he would have overturned Obamacare. I am not certain what it would have been replaced with.
Obamacare is a nightmare that really hasn’t unfolded to full bloom yet.
My bro in law says that that is really how Obama won. He thinks that people have yet to see how bad it is and the pain involved. Actually, the O admin put off until after the election many other horrors. Some we know about, others we don’t.
The Obamaphone gal type? She don’t know and don’t care. LOL
Obama knew he could offer a crappy phone or something to that type and they would get to the polls, legal voter or not.
The Affordable Care Act in its origins was a product of a conservative think tank. The last immigration amnesty was on Reagan's watch. Banking deregulation, championed by conservatives, had unintended consequences which brought us to the brink of total collapse in 2008 and opened the door for Obama's election. A GOP congress spent like drunken sailors. The GOP aided and abetted TARP and the Stimulus. Finally, we eat our own if they do not meet certain standards of purity of thought.
I do not know what the answer is, but there is four years left to find the answer with God's guidance.
Romney was the grandfather of Obamacare. There’s no way he would have dismantled it. Regardless of who won, Obamacare was going to stay in place.
Recheck the stats, oh divisive one, and find that it was 'hispanic' Catholics who voted for Obama, not the 'non-hispanic' Catholics.
Which would mean the balance of his votes were Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, or other...
I can't stress the inherent stupidity in alienating those who are easy to paint with a broad brush but who are ardently fighting the Kenyan, and that includes faithful Catholics nationwide.
Sorry, I know white Catholics who voted for him.
No FAITHFUL Catholic (opposes the "contraception" including RU-486 and abortion mandates in Obamacare, opposes "gay marriage") would.
That may leave some people who call themselves "Catholic" who did, but three out of four whites who claim to be Catholics did not.
In the end, I'd bet there were far more nominal Protestants who voted for Obama.
Notice in my first post, I said “fallen away” and I did not paint all Catholics with one brush. I respect faithful Catholics tremendously.
