If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.

— President Calvin Coolidge

For five years I have consistently maintained that Mitt Romney could not be elected President of the United States. The only thing that changed was Barack Obama’s terrible debate performance and I made the unfortunate mistake of going with the herd toward “he can win now.” A year ago — to be precise, November 8th of last year — I wrote that Mitt Romney would be the nominee, conservatism would die, and Barack Obama would win. Regrettably, I told you so.

As I wrote would happen, Mitt Romney tried to blur lines with Barack Obama. He did not defend social conservatism, but let those attacks go unanswered. He did not articulate strong fiscal conservatism and he never repudiated Romneycare, thereby failing to make any credible attacks on Obamacare.

Conservatives and conservative institutions who embraced him early on are now scrambling to make excuses. They were so invested in a failure they cannot bring themselves to admit Mitt Romney and his campaign were failures. They were, to Republicans, what green energy is to Barack Obama.

Because these conservatives cannot accept that they were wrong, they must conclude that conservatism itself is somehow broken.

The darndest thing is I’m listening to all this handwringing and most of it is coming from a lot of people who’ve never really been conservative or supported conservatism. These people hated our ideas and values when we were winning and now choose this opportunity to sell us out the way they’ve always wanted. The conservative herd is headed off a cliff led by a consultant class that would otherwise now be swimming in pools full of dollar bills like Scrooge McDuck.

These people would have us believe that we must make fundamental changes to draw in new voters. We must exile social conservatives to bring in young people and single women. We must exile fiscal conservatives to bring in hispanic and black voters. With whatever is left from having exiled both, these geniuses would have us believe the Democrats in whose camp these groups already find themselves will just sit back and let it happen.

The Republican Party will never out Democrat the Democrats. Conservatives will never out liberal Liberals. We should not try.

I believe conservatism is the correct solution to our problems. I believe the Republican Party has a better chance of advancing conservatism than the Democrats. I believe many Republicans and conservatives embraced a failed, flawed messenger and now, instead of admitting their mistake, would fundamentally transform the Republican Party and the conservative movement into something it isn’t so they do not have to admit they were wrong all along. I believe that many of our present party leaders have no desire to advance any public policy other than that which they think is best poll tested to keep them in power and advance their career, regardless of the soundness of the policy or the intellectual underpinnings of idea.

No thanks.

At RedState, our front page contributors will continue to be pro-life. Our conservatism is not negotiable with the ebbs and flows of electoral politics.

We will continue to fight the left, but we will also continue to clean up the right.

Our Republican leaders in Congress are intent now on caving on virtually every issue. Karl Rove is signaling he will play in primaries to fight against conservatives. Even some conservatives think we should give up the fight against Obamacare, set up state healthcare exchanges, and succumb.

I have no intention of giving up the fight. I have no intention of succumbing. More bluntly, I have no intention of standing athwart history yielding to the Republicans who got us to this point and you shouldn’t either.

Be prepared to hear all about lots of “voters staying home”...the Bipartisan Oligarchy would rather we all stew in that mess..than having us all bothered, and deciding to investigate, about all the voters voting who never voted...

Listening to descriptions of how “Democrats got out their ground game” with “superior ability to bring those to the polls who normally would never go” by the commentators on Fox election night..made me realize..what they actually have done is track names that HAVE NOT VOTED IN MANY, MANY elections cycles....and vote them.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/10/23/No-Car-Finds-2-214-Registered-Voters-110-Years-of-Age-Older

A well-funded project, county-by-county..to examine the names signed in at at the polls..and going out to find those individuals..you’ll find they were never physically at he polls..or they themselves never filled out the absentee ballot....or their names in the death registers.

The very LAST thing the Bipartisan Oligarchy want or need is any semblance of Constitutional Federal Gov’mt or a clean vote.

Both those are up to We the People to cram it down their throats so hard in DC they will, someday, never do otherwise.

As undesirable a candidate Romney was...he “won” the election.

It is up to We the People to consent to left’s theft..or not.

Look at my posting in 36 regarding the “higher authorities” that rule America. The “highest authorities” are US!...our elected officials rule with “OUR CONSENT” as “we the People”!

How much more Godly judgment will fall upon a Republic and the broad electorate given to mass evil than it would upon a monarchy ruling a people unjustly? Yet even then, we have an example of King David who sinned by commanding a census of his people when such was forbidden by Mosaic law. King David was given a choice of punishments and he chose plague which fell upon the people. Had the people risen up against David’s edict calling for such a census, the nation might have been spared God’s wrath. God did not spare the people from judgment just because their king ruled foolishly.

(Remember from the books of Samuel that God said to Samuel to allow the people to have a monarchy because the heart of the Israeli people was hardened and given to sin; this was God’s judgment upon the nation!....the governing of Israel had hitherto been a theocratic republic with tribal representatives meeting yearly with God’s raised up judge(the authority of which the tribes chose to acknowledge; a nascent legislative branch), the Judge himself who acted with Executive authority, and with the priests who offered up the yearly sacrifices and provided prophecies and intepretations of the Mosaic Laws kind of like an early model of our Supreme Court or the judicial branch.) Thus from the old Testament we have our model of government...the Legislative/ representative branch, the executive, and the judicial branches with the Mosaic Code/Covenants made with God acting as their constitution!

As I look at the trinity Godhead and its descriptions in the Bible...the relationship of Spirit,Father and Son, similar patterns of Executive, Judicial, and Legislative self governance seem to suggest themselves.

Even in our own selves, our thought patterns seem to suggest a overiding body of ethical thought and perception...an “internal constitution” telling us what is right or wrong, a process of weighing and balancing which includes a struggle against self interest vs the struggle to act in altruistic fashion; thus we have our internal legislative and judicial branches. Then, from that area that we call our inner “I” or “I Am”, or “our inner man” an impulse goes out to act or not act, our internal executive branch as it were.

To the degree that our “inner man” is Holy Spirit infused and our inner constitution( or “hearts of flesh” as the Bible states) is written upon by that same Spirt, then that is the degree by which a Christian man does Godly deeds and judges in righteous fashion! By collective action, a majority of people so ruled by the Spirit can turn the tide of a nation bent on immoral self suicide, be they “self” ruled by representive republics or autocratically by kings!

If you are saying what i think you are, its we the people who are becoming wicked and so we put wicked people in the high places, and i agree.

P.S
Good comment.

Actually, the minority Repubs in the Senate for the most part have done that by voting in Partisan fashion. You always had a few “go along to get along” type repubs who were influenced by the Dem leadership to vote on their side because the Dem’s were seeking “bipartisan” cover in case the legislation they were voting on blew up in their faces.

So what you are saying that congress with its GOP majority should just vote 100 per cent on everything the president wants as well as the Dem run senate?

The effect I think would be a political clove/pliven effect which may ultimately utterly destroy the 2 parties and the nation’s current defective political dialectic if not the nation itself! Several new nations may arise out of this mess but they won’t be places of Liberty unless the Spirit of the Lord rules the inner men of those who are trying to build these new nations!

“we the people” are the “higher authorities” of America, not the “kings and Ceasars” of Paul’s day. Heaven help us because the temporal and eternal responsibility for such sins that go on in our nation falls more broadly upon the body politic than it would if we were ruled by corrupt kings.

The books of the Judges and of Samuel show the pattern of moral decline from theocratic republic to monarchy and finally thru the books of Kings/Chronicles and the prophets...national dissolution, mass killings, famines, and slavery!

[”will also mention that John in rev said our fight was against spiritual wickedness in high places, and he did not mean in heavenly places because satan was cast down to earth
when the child of God went to be with God, the spiritual wickedness is in high places here on earth”]

Lets put that verse in context(from ephesians by the way) and you’ll see that our battle is”not against flesh or blood”...if it were then your opinion would have some support.
We fight the Devil and his minions ultimately...earthly kings are just his pawns.

“Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

I did not say that our fight was against flesh and blood, i said it was against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The same as what you said in different words.

The Mormon church is not against abortion in a political sense, but they do want cult members who are bearing Mormon babies, to be vetted by leadership before getting an abortion.

This is Bishop Romney who used to excommunicate Mormons for deviating from the cult.

August 27, 2012 on CBS:

PELLEY: Well, the platform as written at this convention for the Republicans does not allow for exceptions on abortion with regard to the health of the mother or rape or incest. Is that where you are?

ROMNEY: No. My position has been clear throughout this campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.
