No Meat on Mondays in Los Angeles By Susan Jones November 12, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - The Los Angeles City Council is urging all residents to observe "meatless Mondays" from now on.

A resolution adopted on Oct. 24 reads: "Be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Los Angeles hereby declares all Mondays as 'Meatless Mondays' in support of comprehensive sustainability efforts as well as to further encourage residents to eat a more varied plant-based diet to protect their health and protect animals."

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who introduced the resolution, also wants to ban new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles.

"While this is a symbolic gesture, it is asking people to think about the food choices they make. Eating less meat can reverse some of our nation's most common illnesses," press reports quoted Perry as saying.

The resolution makes 15 points in support of meatless Mondays, including U.N. recognition that "livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems."

And if that's not enought, the resolution also mentions the growing obesity epidemic, the importance of reducing "our carbon footprint," health disparities in low-income communities, and animal cruelty.

The resolution plugs a vegetarian diet, noting that a nonprofit group in Los Angeles called Compassion Over Killing "encourages people to choose vegetarian foods as a way to help build a kinder, cleaner, and healthier world, and works with businesses throughout Los Angeles County to ensure vegetarian meals are readily available to consumers."

In which case, I would recommend to those left in CA who have a brain to eat as much meat as their heart desires.

If overpopulation is supposedly destroying the planet and these people really believe that eating meat kills you.... shouldn’t they be encouraging everyone to eat more meat ?

Lets be real.....folks are living to 80 & 90 with ease...and they are the meat and potato generation and they're all obese.

And why vegies?? Why not fish....at least you get your protein.

This is from memory and IIRC, About 250 years ago, England declared two (2) fish days.....for no other reason than to help out the fishing industry.

So is this to help the farm industry???....and the millions of Ca illegals who work'em.

Government is the new religion.
Many religions have dietary restrictions.
Some religions have said “no pork”.
Some religions have said “no meat on Fridays”.

The newest religion says “no meat on Mondays”.

Kneel before Zod.

Don’t worry. California has plenty of fruit and nuts. They won’t freeze and they won’t starve. And with marijuana being freely available, they won’t care. Daniel Webster was right. When Northern Europeans settle in a bright perpetually warm climate, after three generations bizarre behavior becomes the norm. Their brains evolved in cold dark environment and they are not hardwired for most of the California climate.

Orthodox Christians fast from meat (etc.) on most Wednesdays and Fridays (and during fasting seasons). Monday is not usually a fast day.

How dare these liberal cretins not only tell us to eat less meat, but prescribe what day of the week to make meatless!!!! PHOOEY to them!!!!

The primary cause of our obesity epidemic is that people are following the government’s advice to eat more carbs and fewer saturated fats.

We are not talking about more or less money in taxes to run government but a deliberate attack on fellow Americans.

Any politician who deliberately wants to cut an entire industry’s income by 14.3% (one day of the week) should be tried for treason against the American people, convicted by REAL Americans then taken out into the public square and shot. Televise it just to send a message to other communist, central planners.

How many REAL Americans are involved in meat production from raising the grain, care and feeding the animals, transportation, butchers, packaging, retail sales....

How many REAL Americans would allow someone to DESTROY 14.3% of their income without resorting to a Thomas Jefferson moment?

I would take this “sustainability” cr@p more seriously if once, just once, they applied it to their government spending.

You want unsustainable? Government spending should be the poster child.

Obviously LA.

San Francisco would never put up with a day where they couldn't eat meat.
