No Meat on Mondays in Los Angeles By Susan Jones November 12, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - The Los Angeles City Council is urging all residents to observe "meatless Mondays" from now on.

A resolution adopted on Oct. 24 reads: "Be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Los Angeles hereby declares all Mondays as 'Meatless Mondays' in support of comprehensive sustainability efforts as well as to further encourage residents to eat a more varied plant-based diet to protect their health and protect animals."

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who introduced the resolution, also wants to ban new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles.

"While this is a symbolic gesture, it is asking people to think about the food choices they make. Eating less meat can reverse some of our nation's most common illnesses," press reports quoted Perry as saying.

The resolution makes 15 points in support of meatless Mondays, including U.N. recognition that "livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems."

And if that's not enought, the resolution also mentions the growing obesity epidemic, the importance of reducing "our carbon footprint," health disparities in low-income communities, and animal cruelty.

The resolution plugs a vegetarian diet, noting that a nonprofit group in Los Angeles called Compassion Over Killing "encourages people to choose vegetarian foods as a way to help build a kinder, cleaner, and healthier world, and works with businesses throughout Los Angeles County to ensure vegetarian meals are readily available to consumers."

I think there is a way for L.A. residents to eat meat on Mondays without harming the environment. Just remove the brains of all Dem voters and cook them for supper. They’re not being used anyway, and the ones that are used are pretty devoid of weighty matter.

If Hemingway were alive today, would he really still be a liberal? Perhaps there would be a story with Nick Adams undergoing a sex change....

re: unsustainable

The IMF defines a national economy as "unsustainable" if its total debt is over 125% of its GDP. The US mostly wavered between 25% and 40% for most of the post-WWII era. It was 41% when Pelosi and Reid took over. The 2011 estimate is at 105% (~$16 T in a ~$15 T economy), and Obama feels a mandate to keep on spending. Only 11 nations (out of 242) have a higher figure. Sudan is just behind us at 103%. Ahead of us are Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, St Kitts, Antigua, Japan (whose recession and shrinking economy are now making global news), Lebanon, and Portugal. Great company, eh?

Germany and the EU are both still around 83%, and we mocked the for many years for over-spending on their Socialist Dreams.

It is just a matter of time before these initiatives become compulsory. "Sustainability" is as much of a neo-Marxist buzzword as is "tolerance" and "compassion". Much oppression can be justified in the name of "sustainability".

Beware the "auditors" and the "redistributers". They are coming to the USA as surely as tomorrow's sunrise.

I guess they decided upon Monday vs. Friday so they wouldn’t be confused with the “old” Catholic Church...I grew up eating fish on Fridays.

If these people truly believed the population myth and cared about the rest of us as much as they claim, they would put a bullet into their heads and remove themselves from the equation.
