Conservatives don’t abandon their beliefs. Republicans do.
I guess it all depends on how you define “we.” I’m not a member of the Grifter Owned Party (gop) and unlikely to join anytime in the foreseeable future. Their cowardice and capitulation is not mine.
I remember in 2004, when the Democrats lost everything, I remember they had to regroup and figure out how to get back winning again. It was something that we will have to do.

For a group of self-styled intellectuals, they're strikingly incapable of self-questioning except instrumentally. (I.e., "we need a better [sales pitch].")
That constancy may seem like a strength, but it dovetails well with the finding that conservatives are better at sizing up liberals than liberals are conservatives. They expose a major Achilles' heel: if they drift too far into their own la-la land, they'll wind up being poleaxed in a lasting way. Come the day, they'll fall apart - and a sizable number of them will become outright cranks.
Political realism does have its downside in the shorter term, but it the long run it always wins out.
