EPA Official Hopeful on Gas Drilling Study
Associated Press ^ | November 12, 2012 | KEVIN BEGOS

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A top official with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is optimistic that a nationwide project examining natural gas hydraulic fracturing and potential drinking water impacts will provide comprehensive guidelines to help scientists and the public identify the key issues to focus on. But the industry said past studies have already shown the process is safe.

Glenn Paulson, the EPA's science advisor, said Friday that a progress report on the study — mandated by Congress in 2010 — should be released before the end of the year, and a final report in 2014. He spoke at a University of Pittsburgh conference on health impacts of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

Paulson said the study of fracking and drinking water "is one of the most aggressive public outreach programs in EPA history." He said the progress report will show the "range and depth" of what EPA is looking at, and will be open to public comment.

"It will really be a lot for experts to chew on in their particular fields," Paulson said, noting that EPA is reaching out to geologists, academic experts, the industry, environmental groups, and even Indian tribes.

"I think the drinking water study is going to be useful to local governments, and state governments, too," Paulson said. He added that "a lot of people have their minds made up" about fracking, even though many aspects of research are still in the early stages.

Nixon did a lot of dumb things. Creating the EPA was one of them.

Here we go!

0bama is “fundamentally transforming” America, but nobody bothered to ask “transforming it into what?” Since 0bama is a communist, and the whole point of being a communist is the pursuit of permanent, absolute political power, a look at the precinct voting map of the United States makes it pretty obvious. All of the urban precincts are either composed of the poor, dependent on government, or are the elite who control the levers of power. All reliably vote democrat. The suburban precincts are relatively prosperous, independent, conservative in outlook, and reliably vote Republican. If you want to do away with the conservative opposition, you have to do away with the suburbs. The communists cannot allow the sheep to roam free on the range, they might get ideas. “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.” (That’s another Stalin quote) The sheep must be impoverished and herded into the corral of the cities where they can be made into good obedient, dependent communists who will reliably vote democrat.

It is cheap, abundant energy that makes suburban living possible. Eliminate it, and you can start herding sheep.

Early Stages????

We have used hydraulic fracturing in the oil/gas industry for over 6 decades.

Problem for Obama is that lots of Democrats at the state and local level have been counting on this and have, in fact, already spent the money.

He could set off intra-Democrat Party Armageddon if he goes through with this.

Kenya.

0bama + USA => Kenya.

His whole mentality is Third World, and that's what he's trying to turn us into.

In my little corner of the world the Marcellus play and to some extent the Utica play have been a real economic spark. However, they players have been concerned with this for a while. Beginning several weeks before the election everyone began holding their cards and money close. The economic gain is now a wait and see game.

There is a rush to complete wells and pipe under constuction but new construction has slowed to a crawl. Some of the off shoot enterprises are starting to lay off. Alot of people are down right afraid of what might happen to the gas fields if the EPA gets their claws into it. This is a state right not federal.

Oh I forgot to mention that the University of Pittsburgh is emphatically anti fracking.

Everyone knows that the best way to assess anything is to get many factions and people to come to a consensus on it. A clear cut, obvious, common sense decision is just around the corner!

Same here in SW PA. There are to be new regs from the EPA around the first of the year and fear of being shut out of fed lands like zero just did for shale oil.

WHAT early stages?

We've been fracking wells for over 70 years. How many instances of fracking have led to groundwater contamination? (Not even Pavillion can blame their bad water on fracking.)

Ohio and Virginia went Obama. And they just got screwed with the EPA's coal regulation. Democrats toe the party line. They have NO personal integrity. They'd sell their kid's souls to the devil for reelection...

I hope the whole damn mess falls in a huge hole of Depression and obastard and the damn fools that voted for him own it.

You see, I’ll survive and a lot of them won’t.

Obama’s Post-Reelection EPA Plans

Posted: November 4, 2012

If you think the Obama administration’s Enterprise Prevention Agenda has been wildly aggressive during the past four years, believe me, we really ain’t seen nothin’ yet. A new report released by the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Minority Committee enumerates a slew of planned EPA regulations that have been delayed or punted on until after the election that will destroy millions of American jobs and cause energy prices to skyrocket even more.

Titled “A Look Ahead to EPA Regulations for 2013: Numerous Obama EPA Rules Placed on Hold Until After the Election Spell Doom For Jobs and Economic Growth”, it lists and describes new rules concocted over the past year ranging from additional restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions, tougher water guidelines and tightening of the ozone standard. Taken together, they will further drive up pump prices, impose construction bans on local communities, and cripple oil, natural gas and coal production.

As the Washington Post notes, the report puts a spotlight back on the Obama EPA which has earned a “reputation for Abuse”, serving as a stark reminder that “President Obama has presided over a green team administration that works every day to “crucify” oil and gas companies and make sure that “…if you want to build a coal plant you got a big problem.”
