Petraeus told biographer to stop harassing family friend, officials say

Former CIA director David H. Petraeus told the woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair to stop sending threatening e-mails to a family friend, Jill Kelley, after a federal investigation determined who was behind the harassment.

The move by Petraeus came in mid-summer after Kelley contacted a friend who worked as an FBI agent in Tampa, where she lived, beginning a process that would eventually force the former four-star former general to resign last week.

The new information, provided by two law enforcement officials, helps fill in a summer timeline when Petraeus’s e-mail account became the subject of a federal investigation into whether national security had been compromised during his affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.

(snip)

At some point, Kelley told Petraeus about the e-mails and named Broadwell as the person who had sent them. That may have prompted the CIA director to send his own e-mails to Broadwell, telling her to stop the harassment, the law enforcement officials said.

People close to Petraeus say his affair with Broadwell ended four months ago, around the time he e-mailed her about the harassment.

“What I want to know is what he knows about Benghazi.”

So do I, but unfortunately we need to wade through this crap to get us back on topic.

I also want his wife to lose 50 pounds, buy some appropriate and flattering clothes, get a good hairdresser and have a couple of lessons in applying a touch of make-up. Then I want her to take half of the marital assets, and kiss his adulterous a** goodbye."""""""........

I'm sure she will, I know I would......., I would wait until this clears up before I took any steps as far as divorce goes.

Thinking Elizabeth Edwards.

There is no doubt in my mind that she was a democrat plant.

I also think that her hubby "leased" her out, thinking BIG BIG $$$$$ trust fund for their retirement. I think it is possible he was aware and willing for his wife to be this involved.

The reporting on this story smells a lot like MSM smokescreen.

The key will be in how the MSM portrays Kelley in their attempt to totally destroy Broadwell. Let them go first. Get them on record.

I am not defending the actions of Broadwell or Petraeus. But this is not about the affair. It is about Benghazi. The powers that be wanted to use this to destroy Petraeus. That isn't working--too many sympathies in DC. Now they are have to get to Petraeus through Broadwell.

Sadly, we have to wade through the media crap to get back to Benghazi.

It was all classiified. When he resigned he lost his clearance. He was “read off” all the clearances he had and can no longer divulge any classified information he knows without permission.

What power a Congressional Committee has to impact that I do not know.

If I was him unless I had something signed by the DOJ, DOD, DCI, CIA, etc., I’d keep my yap shut.

Acknowledging up front that I'm just making blind comments here, I would be willing to bet money that Broadwell has what used to be called ‘borderline personality disorder’. People with that disorder tend to shine very bright lights on people, and have the ability to make the object of their attention seem superhuman - incredibly loved and admired. However, they really aren't capable of those emotions, and tend to split people into super hero vs. super villain. If she truly cared about Petraeus, and was thinking about her children and husband, she would have tried to find a way out of this mess that let them all lick their wounds and recover their lives. She instead appears to have gone the Glen Close route (i.e. Fatal Attraction).

Women like this have a supreme need to bask in the light of what they perceive as greatness, because it is that which gives their own existence substance. Like those with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, their actions are the result of a personal emptiness that they are psychologically compensating for. The spouses of women like this - unless superhuman - will always be at risk of being left behind, because at some point they fall off their pedestal and thus lose the ability to provide the kind of greatness by proxy that the borderline requires. It's like needing a bigger and bigger, or at least newer and newer fix. If you look at all the pictures of her that have been pasted into news stories, they have a general feel of flamboyance - of someone seeking legitimacy and attention. Women with this personality disorder are self-destructive, and even cut themselves.

I'm not in any way excusing Petraeus. He made bad choices, and lost his self-respect, his position, and hurt his family in the process. He followed the ‘Song of the Siren’ to where it usually leads - self destruction.

Well said. I agree about watching the MSM’s actions closely too. We will have opportunities to destroy them if we only keep in mind the need to.

All true. However, we really don’t know their “arrangement”, do we. I saw a news clip showing Petraeus receiving an award. They gave each other a brief peck and then she lightly patted him on the shoulder, like a mother would give her son an “atta-boy.” It was all very maternal, so I would say he left the building a long time ago.

Who are these people and what do they have to do with this thread?

I've always found the legal proceedings surrounding Oliver North to be among the most interesting legal stories in my lifetime. I love the ultimate conclusion that was included in that link you posted:

The prosecution may have prosecuted the case well, and the case included several landmark rulings related to the prosecution of former U.S. executive branch appointees in criminal cases ... but it was all ultimately meaningless because the immunity granted to North by Congress made any attempt to prosecute him a waste of time. LOL.

YOU: “Her twin sister is a lawyer who represents whistle blowers. Another odd coincidence?”

YOU: “Who are these people and what do they have to do with this thread?”

Khawam is the twin sister.

Keyword classified.

There may be aspects of our presence there that may be classified, but as far as I know, nobody got read-in or out of the Benghazi terrorist attack or the lies that followed.

I know for SURE that the "spontaneous reaction to a video" aspect wasn't classified, because it was complete fabrication.

She will get half of his pension in the case of his divorce. His pension is 75% of the base pay of a 0-9. You can bank on this.

Sorry about that. I only heard that Kelley had a twin who was a lawyer. Fox mentioned it this am, but did not mention her name. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will go back and read your post again, now that I have been enlightened. Thanks.

Can't a Congressional Committee grant him immunity?

I seem to remember that once immunity has been granted, a witness has no choice but to testify.

Iirc a witness cannot even take the 5th Amendment, once granted immunity. Could be wrong.

I agree. I was married to one and was the sister of another.

Agree. The meda wants everyone to go off looking in the sex direction to get Benghazi off the radar, but everything will eventually lead right back to Benghazi. It is hard to keep the faith though with such spineless rinos running the house, dems running the senate and a jackal Marxist media.
