President Obama is hosting a closed-door White House meeting Tuesday morning with labor leaders and liberal activists to discuss his stance in negotiations with House Republicans on the looming budgetary fiscal cliff.
One day later, Mr. Obama plans to have a similar private discussion with business leaders.
Vice President Joe Biden will also attend the Tuesday's gathering, which is being billed as a discussion of "the actions we need to take to keep our economy growing and find a balanced approach to reduce our deficit," according to a White House release.
Several labor leaders plan on attending, including Mary Kay Henry of the Service Employees International Union; Lee Sanders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; Dennis Van Roekel of the National Education Association; and Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO.

All Obama needs is a Secretary of Business and the party would be complete.

So, we are in for 4 more years of “one-year” promises and ‘plans’ for this or that? Sheesh...at least the communists had the sense to go with 5 year plans.

The unions took a flogging in Michigan on Tuesday and it appears that it was largely at the hands of private sector union members.
NYT: Prop 2 'An Embarrassing Loss for Labor'
The GOP would be wise to learn to exploit the growing divide between public and private sector unions.

is he bowing, or is he on his knees? either pose brings an unpleasant mental picture to mind. Yikes!

Excellent insight. Private sector unions are a vanishing species, because their companies get run out of business by non-union companies.
It’s only the govt empl unions that are flourishing because there’s no competition.

Absolutely agree. I was expecting a win for labor but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

I've been saying it all along but everyone is so terrified of being labeled pro union they avoid talking to them even where we agree.
The
http://www.unionconservatives.com/ are openly pro right to work. Terry Bowman has testified on Capitol hill against union political fundraising.
I don't agree with everything he says but I agreed with him on 5 of 6 ballot proposals and that's as much of an agreement I can ever find with anyone here at FR.

They're getting it from both sides: Their companies are also run out of business by their own employees' unions. See Hostess Bakeries thread above...

Even union people want the free stuff. They just have to pay dues, in some states. Keep pushing right to work and kill ALL the union security agreements.

The reach-over across the aisle appears to be well at work.
So he continues his my way or the highway rule.
Eventually it will cause the demise of our system, weather people want to agree to this notion or they don’t.
He is inciting conflict like a good and well trained community organizer does.
