The sheer incompetence of the man is stunning. He has thousands of electronic wizards at his disposal who could set him up with the ultimate secure email and instead he logs on to Google.

What a buffoon.

She sure was around a long time for the affair to just be a recent one and one that supposedly lasted five months. At this point, I’m more concerned with why the heck he was in a meeting with Angelina Jolie? So now it’s both the WH and the CIA who can’t make decisions without asking Hollyweird first? Enough with entertaining celebs.

What on God's green earth is the director of the CIA doing with a frikin' Gmail account? Google? Seriously?

Considering what they were up to, it makes perfect sense. Using his work account would have been truly insane.

What didn't make sense was for Broadwell to frighten Jill Kelley via mysterious and anonymous emails. That's what blew the whole thing open. Gmail is not secure against subpoenas, and that includes the server logs, not just the email content.

This was a case of the general and the major letting their privates call the shots.

I agree that IF Broadwell was a plant from the very beginning, either from the WH, or some foreign govt (ie. like the Russian Hottie Spy a few years ago), and the WH AG Holder either didn’t catch this, or encouraged it... then yeah, that would be a scandal 100x worse than what it is now. But that is just speculation. It’s either exactly as the WSJ is reporting, or there is much more to come out later. Right now, I expect it will go no further than it already has. The lamestream media has no interest in tarnishing this President and will protect him at all costs. Patriotic whistleblowers are all we can hope for, and I doubt they will ever surface. The Chicago way prevents it.

My Grandfather whom fought in the Battle of the Bulge - always wore a belt buckle - Always be prepared. Okay it is sad that the Military Leadership and the Secret Service have a problem - Keeping the Johnson in the pants.

americas military has become a joke in the world. Americans are more absorbed into sex that they have lost sight of reality.

this timeline is just another excuse for Obama to get cover. remember WallStreet journal has joined with NBC.

There is more to this and the Petreaus flings are just a smoke screen. Oddly enough Petreaus went through Prostate Cancer in 2009, note in checking out prostate cancer - 12 - 24 months must transpire before he can have normal sexual relations. But due to the type of surgery and type of prostate cancer he could have the nerve severed and have the ability to raise it up severed so in turn Petreaus may have had a penile implant done to assist him to keep it up. It is usual that man whom are in the 40s-50s, whom undergo prostate cancer surgery generally get a penile implant.

He has thousands of electronic wizards at his disposal who could set him up with the ultimate secure email and instead he logs on to Google.

You forget that electronic wizards can talk and blow whistles and write books.

His plan was a good one and would have worked well, except for the fact that his paramour and fellow West Point grad could not restrain herself from scaring Jill Kelley into calling the cops. That's where it unraveled.

Of course, the other major point of vulnerability was Dr. Broadwell. According to the article, the affair ended in July. That's probably when Dr. Broadwell confronted his wife. It could very well have been a messy divorce featured on the cover of the National Enquirer. However, apparently, they patched up their marriage, fortunately for the kids. Written in chalk in their driveway is a sign, "Dad ♡'s Mom".

"Gmail is not secure against subpoenas, and that includes the server logs, not just the email content."

Yes, and Gmail data gets integrated into Google's advertising metadata.

The site should be blocked from CIA employee access (really all government access) unless they're doing an investigation. I suppose the director's access may be wide open, but security policies mean nothing if they're not enforced across the board. Anyone can be compromised and no one should be above suspicion.

It just occurred to me that maybe the timeline was "adjusted" a bit by his friend, retired Army Col. Steve Boylan, so that this affair didn't become a military infraction. According to others on FR, adultery is against The Uniform Code of Military Justice when it:

harms "good order and discipline" and when the adultery is "of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces."
Petraeus retired according to this timeline, then had the affair when he was a civilian.

Hmmmm... He was spending a lot of time with BraSwell in lonely, isolated Afganistan, away from the public spotlight. Then when he gets back to the fish bowl of DC, then has an affair. Okay dokey.

Thanks for the link. The basic honor code at all the Service Academies is simple and straightforward: Don’t lie, cheat or steal, and don’t tolerate those who do.

Enter situational ethics, big picture concerns, politics and money, and you get a slush of gobbledygook in place of an honor code. Many graduates leave the code at the school and embark on the serious business of ascending.

Too bad the AFA wasn’t receptive to the study; too often, CO’s don’t want bad news on their watch, and will crush anything remotely resembling it.

Beat Army!
