Krauthammer: White House 'Held Affair Over Petraeus's Head' For Favorable Testimony On Benghazi

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on Tuesday said the White House used David Petraeus’s affair to get the CIA director to give testimony about the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that was in line with the administration’s position on the matter.

Appearing on Fox News's Special Report, Krauthammer said, "The sword was lowered on Election Day" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

I agree - why is the fact that Obama left 41 Americans to die not enough for anyone, even Chris Matthews.

“67 votes required in the Senate.”

Oh nuts on the Senate. IF it turns out that Obama’s actions (or inaction) resulted in the deaths of those personnel in Libya...he should be impeached by the House...and they should tell the Senate...either convict or ALL government business comes to a halt....and stick to it. Mr. Obama must be forced to leave office IF he is culpable.

“I pray that you are right. But I bet you anything that he is being threatened.”

Probably is, and with reason. IF it can be shown the “affair” began while he was in command in Afghanistan....he could be recalled and courts-martialed...with significant loss of pay and status.

Think about it, electoral college has not yet voted.

Wishful thinking piasa, wishful thinking. But I like the thought.....

Now, the general is a private citizen.

Once he takes an oath to tell the truth in testimony, he must do so.

Obama no longer has anything to blackmail Petraeus with, IMO.

After a 40++ year military life with extraordinary merit, I suspect that Obama will not like the testimony Petraeus will give to Congress.

[annieokie] [ He has one more DUTY to his country, and I believe he will step up and fulfill that Duty and restore his honor. ]

[hosepipe] Assuming he has any.. Zero picked him for some good reason..

He surely knows Zero is a Marxist.. what honor is there in working for him..

Petreaus KNOWS exactly whom Obama is.. “birds of a feather, fly together”...

Look, Petraeus came up under Dubya, okay? He won plaudits in The Sandbox, and when Gen. McChrystal (deliberately) screwed the pooch in The Suck and said impolitic stuff about Barky (how could anyone not? -- it was as true as the day is long, and remarking on it was about like telling someone the time of day) in order to get relieved and retired out from under that worthless SoS and his Chicago Boyz, Petraeus got the job.

Then, when it was time for him to move on, the next obvious step was Army Chief of Staff or Chairman of the JCS, but Bozo positively and affirmatively denied Petraeus those jobs because he hates generals who don't pimp-limp or frisky-jog like his gay catamite ass does (and like Oooh Big General Wes! did for Slick), but he had to rat-hole Petraeus somewhere away from knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Free Republicans like us. So he sent him to run the CIA, to keep him all secret-squirrel clammed up about everything.

Barky screwed up when Petraeus resigned. Not only did Petraeus's resignation letter spill a can of beans in Bozo's lap, it freed him up a) to testify completely at liberty without any cloud of further scandal or any Chicagoan Sword of Damocles hanging over him (he's uncontrolled now! Oh s***!), and b) to enter the political arena.

Think about this: What kind of team do you think Petraeus would make with Sarah Palin? Think about that. Think about clouds of Ronaldus Magnus glory raining down on the Chicago Boys and their whole wretched brood of pillagers, bilkers, soakers, obamaphoners, freeloaders, "knockout-gamers", bag men, political fixers, community organizers, Bolshevik ranters, mouthpieces, race pimps, pimp-pimps, hookers, pushers, dopers, hustlers, schmoozers, and luuusers.

I am.

annie, I so hope the networks carry Petraeus's testimony live. I sure think it would be worth bumping an episode of All My Children to some after-eleven makeup slot. Let the soap fiends do some VCR/TIVO time-shifting for a change.

That would be such obvious oppression, the Congress would never stand for it. They'd reverse it by private legislation.

Very good post, I fully agree with you analysis.

Some are so hell bent on destroying the General, I don't understand that, but I have a hunch (will keep that private).

At this point I just have to trust in our Republican PIT BULLS to get to the bottom of this, and Petraeus is the KEY, and his testimony needs to be kept confidential (hahaha) as best it can for now.........BECAUSE

Hillary will TESTIFY in December, Fox News reported that this a.m., so how convenient/lucky for her, to get to testify AFTER Petraeus.

She will now be able to construct her denial TESTIMONY according to what he says in "Closed session". How will she know his testimony, OH< hahaha., her Demwit friends will tell her, or there will be a conveniently hidden MIC.

Her testimony: "I do not recall", "To the best of my recollection", blah blah, blah. Shades of WHITEWATERGATE, and many in between.

Based on her FLAWED memory on anything, how is she the smartest woman in the world EVER.

I am thinking the setup of Petraeus started in the SURGE debates. Obama & gang saw the need to bring Petraeus down, what better way than give him the CIA job, (keep our friends close and your enemies closer). They did not know how they were going to betray him at that time, but they KNEW they would design something.......and now we know.

You've a desperate imagination skippy.. DAvy has proved already he has no honor.. So you think he loves his country more than he loves his wife?.. He appears to have a very small but busy dick..

Petreaus will be "SOLD" in the Chicago stock yards after he is thoroughly "MILKED" for gravitas.... THEN theres John Roberts a "grifter" installed by George Bush waiting in the "wings"...

You must think the White Hut Cabal are STUPID?...
VOTING DIED on Nov. 6th.. no matter who you run against them will be defeated...
Only one option.... and voting is not "IT"... wise up knothead..

Yeah maybe so. The whole thing stinks of corruption. I thought the CIA would be better than the WH at disinformation but looks like they can’t touch O’s abilities. He’s in the wrong profession.

i dont think thats necessarily true. obama has the whole of the msm behind him, and 90 percent of americans believe that if its on tv it must be true (that dont say, “as seen on tv for nothing”).

i’ve seen movies where the really ugly guy, with the really ugly wife, cannot resist the great beauty and thows everything away for her. at the end of the movie though, he always comes to his senses.

The more sordid this whole thing becomes, the more I wonder what is behind John Roberts’ unbelievable decision on obamacare. There seems to be a parallel.

Thank you!!!! My thoughts exactly. I've always believed Roberts found the horse's head in his bed.
