Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on Tuesday said the White House used David Petraeus’s affair to get the CIA director to give testimony about the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that was in line with the administration’s position on the matter.

Appearing on Fox News's Special Report, Krauthammer said, "The sword was lowered on Election Day" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Even if the House approves Articles of Impeachment there is no way he would be convicted by a Democrat majority Senate. That’s how Clinton walked.

Petraeus’ being forced to resign one week after the election and before he was going to testify before Congress about BenghaziGate s highly suspect

When in doubt, attack anyone who knows. Then when they finger you, you can claim they are just bitter about getting caught in their own mess.

No Fort Marcey Park in his future. The general is smart enough to have “insurance” that will detonate a supernova under the White House in the event of his untimely demise.

Now, they might threaten to throw acid in a favorite niece’s face, something classy like that.

But they can’t directly threaten Petreaus. Too much insurance. Hell, he’s probably sitting with Bob Woodward right now, working on Chapter 22 of his bio.

Wow Charles...do ya think? Did you come to that conclusion on your own, or did Hume and Krystal spell it out for you? Sorry, but Krauthammer never has impressed me.

Patraeus already lied to Congress and gave Obama huge political cover at the height of the election.

The General gets no respect in my book.

“In order redeem his honor, after 37 years of giving and hearing speeches about “Duty, Honor, Country,” Petreaus might attempt to redeem his honor in front of congress.

He might blow Obama out of the water. Might.”

Is Patraeus now a man with “nothing left to lose” or do they still have a hold over him?

Possible loss of pension and benefits.

I think your right about Duty, Honor and courge. He is a solider first and will hopfully save the country by telling the truth. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

This is bigger then Watergate.

It’s worse. Clinton walked from a Republican majority senate. There is no way this senate would vote to convict. Oh, and by the way, Rasmussen reported Obama’s approval rating at 55% today. We are living a nightmare.

THe GOP house won’t impeach him under any circumstance.

No one will pay a price for the murder of 4 Americans.

The only thing the GOP and Bonehead will do is use it as a campaign
tool to get us to the polls in 2014.

We need to be very careful in assessing what Petraeus said to Congress. We will have to parse his words and see if he openly lied, or used weasel words to Congress.

Wouldn't Patraeus have dirt on all the players in this corrupt regime? If he has a spine left he should voluntarily testify before congress and get some pay back for being betrayed. He might be able to redeem himself if he takes down these corrupt scumbags and saves the country.

I certainly hope he will do just that.

I can't think of a worse punishment after 37 years of service, than to be forever labeled a Coward, and that is just where Petraeus is headed if he does not testify.

He can live the bimbo affair down, in shame, but he will not be able to withstand the humiliation of Cowardice, not possible.imo

He has one more DUTY to his country, and I believe he will step up and fulfill that Duty and restore his honor.

Mock Krauthammer is you like but he is highly respected in D.C. and he came very close to accusing Obama of a criminal conspiracy.

This just got an order of magnitude more serious.

No one suggested that you should respect him.

My post contrasted Petreus’ resignation vs. the refusal of Bill Clinton to do so. Both of them acted reprehensibly.

I saw Charles Krauthammer in person the other night at the Kennedy Center.

This isn’t directed at Freepers. He is explaining this for the masses who haven’t been following things. Which is a very important and valuable service.

Chaz the Spaz...

While working in a busy clinical department of a Harvard teaching hospital,I watched "Chaz The Spaz" complete Harvard Medical School during the 1970's...in a wheelchair as a paraplegic.Having watched it closeup I'd say that takes a level of courage that *I* don't possess,do you think *you* could do it? Even with all four of your limbs functioning???

Talk about *no class*!
