“SANDY’S FAULT!” - Barack HUSSEIN Obama (The Mother of all Whiners)
I guess even Reuters doesn’t go for Broken Window fallacy anymore.
“Prior period adjustment” is a well used phrase in accounting and statistical work. I expect that is the phrase that should actually be used to explaine this sharp inrcrease in unemployment claims, indicating an understatement of claims in prior periods.
An honest mistake, of course.
I call BS on Sandy being responsible. There was a jump in layoffs last week, at least reported layoffs.
Gee, let me think... what else happened last week that might give business owners pause?
The author of this article is:
Jeffry Bartash
He NEEDS to be thoroughly ridiculed for this irresponsible piece of “journalism”
Dozens of companies announce layoffs, and specifically tie it to Obamacare, and this guy blames it on the weather???
How, with no gasoline, did tens of thousands of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans flock to the unemployment office?
How, with no power, with even FEMA offices closed for weather, were unemployment offices even open?
How, with local goverment employees equally impacted, were local government employees able to staff non-essential government offices?
how UNEXPECTED!! that jobless claims would suddenly rise just after the election!!!
I am SHOCKED! (not)
For reference:
“Hurricane Katrina caused the number of Americans filing for unemployment to surge last week, far exceeding an already high Wall Street estimate, according to a government report Thursday.
The Labor Department said 398,000 initial claims for jobless insurance were filed in the week ended Sept. 10, up from a revised 327,000 the week prior. Economists had expected 350,000 claims, according to Briefing.com.
The 71,000 increase is the biggest jump in ten years, while the total 398,000 number is the highest in two.”
I would think a disaster like that would CREATE hundreds of thousands of temporary jobs for clean-up, search, food and supplies delivery, etc.
How soon in 2013 will that number start reaching 100,000 per month? Do any of you feel any sense of urgency by either party to address the jobs issue? I didn’t think so. This upcoming holiday season may be the last one we fully enjoy before the full weight of our economic catastrophe comes crashing down on us beginning in January.

If anything, this storm will increase jobs on the affected areas - right now you can’t even get a plumber, electrician, flooring contractor or dry wall contractor to even return a phone call.
States withheld processing first time claims before the election. I was saying weeks ago that Colorado, for instance, was over 50,000 claims behind.
Americans voted on this fool. Enjoy it Idiots. Word is Ohio and Pennsylvania are hardest hit. Have fun.
I am beginning to think that the left has allowed themselves to be brainwashed that unemployment entitlement means they will finally have time for that government sponsored trip to the exotic location of their dreams.
They don’t want to work. They just want free stuff. They think they voted for a dream vacation- over a job at the morgue.
