Oh, We Forgot to Tell You . . .

The second-term curse goes like this: A president (e.g., Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and so on) wins reelection, but then his presidency implodes over the next four years — mired in scandals or disasters such as Watergate, Iran-Contra, Monica Lewinsky, the Iraqi insurgency, and Hurricane Katrina.

Apparently, like tragic Greek heroes, administrations grow arrogant after their reelection wins. They believe that they are invincible and that their public approval is permanent rather than fickle.

The result is that Nemesis zeroes in on their fatal conceit and with a boom corrects their hubris. Or is the problem in some instances simply that embarrassments and scandals, hushed up in fear that they might cost an administration an election, explode with a fury in the second term?

Advertisement Coincidentally, right after the election we heard that Iran had attacked a U.S. drone in international waters.

Coincidentally, we just learned that new food-stamp numbers were “delayed” and that millions more became new recipients in the months before the election.

Coincidentally, we now gather that the federal relief effort following Hurricane Sandy was not so smooth, even as New Jersey governor Chris Christie and Barack Obama high-fived it. Instead, in Katrina-like fashion, tens of thousands are still without power or shelter two weeks after the storm.

Coincidentally, we now learn that Obama’s plan of letting tax rates increase for the “fat cat” 2 percent who make over $250,000 a year would not even add enough new revenue to cover 10 percent of the annual deficit. How he would get the other 90 percent in cuts, we are never told.

Coincidentally, we now learn that the vaunted DREAM Act would at most cover only about 10 percent to 20 percent of illegal immigrants.

I think that your point is well taken, and there’s every possibility that the election was stolen via widespread voter fraud.

Whether anyone will look into that is anybody’s guess.

Romney, however, seems to have rolled over and accepted it up the b*tt.

I’m not sure if Petraeus is on our side or not.

FR not at all slow for me, try pinging the servers (traceroute) to find where the slowdown is.

"And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man."

Not that there's anything really comical about all this but the verses you quoted often bring me a bit of a sly grin.I remember years ago being all praised up over something I did or said. Can't remember what it was but I do remember the feeling it gave me.I felt 'dangerous',all puffed up and full of myself. It made me feel physically good.I like to think I've since learned better.

Now imagine Herod seated on high over the people with all and sundry praising him to the hilt, calling him a god no less!He bloates up that big on praise he just simply pops and all the people watch as he tumbles from his throne amidst much clatter and clamor finally hitting the ground with a dull thud and a great billowing cloud of dust.As the dust clears everyone stands there silently looking at the sad spectacle and then they just start walking off in every direction.Just like the scene from Life of Brian when everyone raises a shoe as they walk off leaving Spike standing there flexing his hands in embarrasment.

Excuse the rant but that scene cracks me up.

I think that glory could actually be a dangerous thing.Better to let God have it.He's worthy of it and able to handle it.

Thanks for the ping, F15Eagle.

The world is indeed ready for the Antichrist, and I believe that after the next couple of years with the unbridled and unleashed Barack Obama, in all his true communist glory living out his father's dreams and implementing everything he and his godless acolytes have fantasied about for decades, those Americans who remain after the rapture will be at the front of the Antichrist-worshiping throngs.

If they are equating Barack Obama, a rank amateur compared to what's coming, with Jesus Christ, the adoration and devotion to the real Antichrist, when he arrives, will know no bounds.
