War Babies: Time to Fight

Cleaning out papers, I found this that I had written and distributed without effect during the Clinton years. It was a 'back to the future' moment re-reading it today.

"A group of people are bonded by a love of this country, gratitude and respect for those who have served to protect it, and concern for its future. Many of us were silent during the 1960's when revolution overtook America. We basked in freedoms bought by strangers, neighbors, and loved ones. We are the WAR BABIES. Born and raised in an atmosphere of trust that powers-that-be more or less kept everybody's best interests at hand, we belived that some force of natural good in the form of The United States of America would always triumph.

Now we live in the aftermath of a war that was waged without us. We were busy elsewhere, and the other side took power with ease. We thought it might be coming, but the future was always elusive - until now. It is owned by the hippie/ flower child/ adult/ liberals who took it in the streets of our own cities. (Added 11/15/12... and now, their spawn.)

Our responsibility is to speak the truth, late arriving as it is. We won't turn cars over or rant around college campuses as our Baby Boomer followers in time did. It may be late, but our forefathers deserve our attention at the very least. Someone must state and stand for the principles of freedom which are lost now in the melee of liberal chaos.

WAR BABIES are not of a single age group. They are not ethnic nor sexist nor racist. They are anyone and everyone dedicated to the original ideals of America, an America where honesty and integrity used to stand above all else. Where freedom is valued above power. Where the lost find shelter. Where the rich seek to help the poor to become the rich. Where government does not dictate. Where goodness springs from the soul, not from controlled thought.

How to restore this America? We probably cannot, but we can make people aware of what has been lost and in so doing, manifest the one chance that may be left, to ensure that even as it falls, this country stood for something good until the end. We should pray, we should shout. We should instruct, and we should live our lives apart from the greed-motivation which enables the present world power seekers to control us.

We are the WAR BABIES, and it is time to fight."

"This is how the battle of good against evil always begins: one small voice raised in the crowd, proclaiming that the king has no clothes, that the new gods are hollow plaster, that the new masters in the land are crooks and charlatans. Until that voice is raised, the tyranny will continue. Once it is heard, courage, like crime, proves contagious, and the tattered banners are raised once more against the ancient adversary." Excerpted from "A View From the Ridge" by Morris West, 1996.

Someone saying the Emperor has no clothes does nothing when the crowd is also naked.

Yeah, no doubt you’re right. What a state we’re in.
