EPA rejects governors' requests to waive ethanol mandate

The Obama administration on Friday rebuffed requests by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and the leaders of several other states to waive a federal renewable fuel mandate that requires ethanol to be blended into the nation's gasoline supply.

In rejecting the waiver requests, the Environmental Protection Agency effectively disagreed with the states' concerns that the mandate was spiking corn demand and prices following a drought that devastated crops in the Midwest. The EPA concluded the Renewable Fuel Standard would not cause "severe economic harm" to states and regions.

"We recognize that this year's drought has created hardship in some sectors of the economy, particularly for livestock producers," said Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Air and Radiation. "But our extensive analysis makes clear that congressional requirements for a waiver have not been met and that waiving the RFS will have little, if any, impact."

This is the second time Perry has lost his bid for a renewable fuel standard exemption...

This is the EPA, literally the most incompetent, stupid, and economically illiterate agency in the government, with Energy and Interior coming right up its ass.

I’ve had to deal with the EPA. Their theme is “Stupidity is us”.

Yep, plain whole corn/deer corn is running $9.99 per 50#.
Crimped is higher than that.
Sweet feed mix is about 20% higher as well. (about 5% corn mixed in).

Sheesh. What a bunch of idiots. Corn is for food. Ethanol sucks like Barry.

Think about anything run by the Federal Government, very carefully.

'One size fits all', just doesn't fit very many well, and some not at all.

Give the power back to the states, and to the people, where it belongs.

how pathetic is it when we have to beg the EPA for permission to run our own states to the best of our ability as we see fit?

“PLEASE, pretty please, will you let us do something our way, PLEASE?”

Imagine if you had to go get a judge to approve you fixing the leak under your sink. This is the level of stupid we’re dealing with.

That competition is what keeps us free. Liberty isn’t just physical, but intellectual as well. Let California prove that liberalism doesn’t work. Just let other states live as they see fit.

One-size-fits-all doesn’t work in socks why would it work in human life?

The EPA concluded the Renewable Fuel Standard would not cause "severe economic harm" to states and regions.

That's why the economy is tanking under Obozo - just like NASA became an Islam outreach organization, the EPA has become the financial policy arm of his administration.

The problem isn’t the high price of corn. It’s that ethanol doesn’t fulfill its intended purpose. It actually worsens the environment and causes more gas to be used.

Power is NEVER given.....

It was the bloodless suggestion. All else will be ugly, if necessary.

... and that is the very power liberals crave, the power over your life. They are not motivated by learning, or material things. Their thrill is to have people beg and to have the power to deny.

Never-mind the EPA, it is right down to local level. Their are towns in Massachusetts (and NY ask Hannity) where you can't even cut down a ******* tree in your own yard that you own without some local Apparatchik so empowered they can bring you into court and fine you.

I fear the Republic is lost for good.

I was visited over the weekend by a 48 year old Brazilian man who once stayed with us years ago as an exchange student. He lives in Sao Paulo, the third largest city in the world.

In Brazil, all cars are flex-fuel. They have gasoline and 100% ethanol. Presently the ethanol is produced from sugar cane and is considerably less expensive than gasoline. The milage from ethanol is much less than gasoline but it coast less. People use ethanol because the fillup cost is less.

All this will change somewhat when the gasoline produced in government waters comes on line
