Former employees of Hostess Brands Inc. are now hoping that a buyer will save pieces of the liquidating company and put them back to work.
Hostess set a 5 p.m. Nov. 15 deadline for workers involved in a union-organized strike to return to work. The company warned that if the ongoing labor strike continued it would force the company into liquidation, and it wasnt bluffing having announced plans to liquidate and lay off 18,000 employees.
But now those that are out of work, including nearly 200 in Jacksonville, are hoping that someone will buy the popular Hostess products and reproduce them, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Yup. The first thing I would want, after sinking millions into a business investment, would be to hire union workers to staff my operation.
The plants in the right to work states are worth something..the others are only worth the salvage value of the equipment and the real-estate.
Who buys a money loosing plant in a union shop state? Only a crony with a govt loan with zero equity at risk.
I live in Mexico. We MAKE Twinkies there REAL cheap. Soon you can order them on line at Amazon and avoid all of the Unionized bakers and drivers and bosses and union shops. Life is great...TWINKIE POWER.
The products will still be made, but under new owners in their facilities. They would be insane to hire you scumbags......
Hopefully the non-union workers will be re-hired. As for the union drones, well, they can get a job, too. Let them get at the end of the line.
You’re making the Twinkies American won’t make?..............
And I hope the buyers bring them back at half their original pay
,,,,, I hope these greedy b@$+@rd$ lose their homes , cars and everything dear to them as many non-union folks have already lost . They ,, unlike many non-union folks still had a job to go to whereas those non-union folks would have easily given up 8% of their wages in order to just keep their jobs , homes , cars etc. .
Some of these union thugs are bragging now on how they closed down Hostess . Let them eat cake now .
Mexiso believes in collective bargaining, uh huh.
Hopey for changey ended up in outof joby.
This would have been preferable to the GM/Chrysler bailout. As long as Chapter-11 (or whatever number it is) is not an option, this Twinkie example is the next best path. What happened with GM/Chrysler is akin to a buyer coming in to take over twinkie, and KEEP all the inefficient unions in non-right-to-work states.
Someone will definitely by the brsnds, but who in their right mind would hire those guys?

A Labor Victory Over Hostess (satire)
“Who buys a money loosing plant in a union shop state? Only a crony with a govt loan with zero equity at risk.”
Still a possibility especially with our current adminstration. Most likely Mexico wins in this one. Haven’t heard of any Asian or European interest in this but can’t ignore what any of those parties might do.
The article has experts in liquidation saying it could take years to liquidate Hostess’ assets.
So, even if we’re talking only a year or two, the lion’s share of these workers are not coming back to work at their former place of employment if a purchaser were dumb enough to return to the same place where the union killed the company. That’s not very likely.
I imagine the recipes and trademarks will be purchased by some other product line and reproduced with their own equipment on their own lines in their own states.
I imagine the profit margin on this kind of product means that unionized workers with greeder union bosses will not be considered even for a second as prospective employees. I agree with those who say this will go to some kind of right to work state or to some private company.
Our plant just went through that four years ago. Since our plant was non-union, more productive and produced better quality, jobs actually moved from their existing plant to ours. When I went down to the existing plant to pick out which materials we wanted moved to our plant, the stares I got were so icy that I could have frozen (or bleed) to death.
If Bimbo (the Mexican company) becomes the buyer, they will probably not only move production to right-to-work states, they will hire the newly minted DREAMers to replace the the union employees.
And the irony of it all will be totally lost on the jag-offs.
not if they ship UPS...
I think the unions that are on strike should buy the company or plants. Let them become an employee owned operation, if current ownership wants to liquidate.
It would be interesting to see union bosses setting policy for the company.
A company which buys the names and trademarks may also buy some of the specialized machinery used to make the products, but that machinery will be moved to their existing facilities in right-to-work states.
An acquiring company would be insane to hire any of the union people whose insane strike doomed the original company.
They hoped, that changed.
Simple enough lesson: Not all change is good.
Pity that didn't sink in a couple of months ago....
Union goons are clueless.
What? They want a chance to bully different owners? Union creeps need to move on... find some new company to destroy. They've done this one.
Were I to be a potential investor, the first question on my checklist is: “Are you planning to rehire ANY union member that voted to strike?”
If yes, I’d tell them to shove it up their smelly union Obamas.
Step one to getting job back is to move to Mexico.
Right ... no sane buyer wants any part of the imbeciles whose collective malfeasance put the first owner out of business.
Industrial grade insanity is at work here.
Can you see an astute investor saying:
“Lets buy the Hostess bakery so we can provide employment to the intransigent union workers who drove the original owners into bankruptcy and forced the company to close the business down.”
State?
Why, so your union can poison THAT operation, too??
Uhh, no.
Typical union thinking... “So, what day are the jobs coming back?”
this is one of the reasons employers are only hiring people WITH jobs. You may not be allowed to ask about being a striking unionista. Thus if a person has a job then they are not a trouble maker. (or the odds favor it)
The lawyers will do their best to complicate and prolong settlements to divert as much of the intrinsic value to themselves as possible.
Cue Phyllis Diller laughing.
If Mexico starts exporting Twinkies to us the FDA will likely issue new rules for importing foods with dangerously high sugar content.
If a new investor is foolish enough to move the Twinkie production lines to non union states, the NLRB will step in with both feet to protect us against "unfair" labor practices.
For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. Hosea 8:7
Why would new owners hire union people all over again. Especially in this economy. The union screwed their members... They were offered 20% stake in the company but the union turned that down. Idiots.
I would give leeway to union rank and file. It's the union leadership that screws the little guys. Still, the card-carrying union members can get at the end of the employment lines behind the non-union people. Just my two cents.
The unions should buy all these companies going out of business due to the unions. The have hundreds of millions of dollars laying around to payoff politicians. Maybe it is time for membership to stand up and demand that any plant that closes the union should buy and run.
They could hire thanks of people and keep businesses alive.
Uh, no. You went on strike to destroy the company once, you won’t get the chance to do it a second time.
Nobody with half a brain wants to buy a union controlled company.
Someone should manufacture bumper stickers saying ‘Lost your job? Thank a Union!’.
I would put that on my car. And I detest bumper stickers on cars, especially my car.
Hmmm, are they now HOPING for Bain to step in? To bad the winner of the election spent the last 4 years demonizing “the rich.” Now these slaves get to reap the whirlwind, no matter which candidate won their votes!
“Former employees of Hostess Brands Inc. are now hoping that a buyer will save pieces of the liquidating company and put them back to work.”
Unionism is a mental disorder.
any buyer would be a fool to take former employees with their unions back.
Solyndra ex-executives are looking for a new government funded venture...
lemme guess...they’re being bought by General Motors?
