RENO, Nev. The owner of a Nevada brothel who was recently elected as a county commissioner says he faced few objections during his campaign.
Lance Gilman tells The Associated Press that to many voters in Storey County his Mustang Ranch is just a business and a prosperous one at that.
The 68-year-old Gilman describes himself as a dye-in-the-wool Republican who loves American values.

He runs a legal business and his taxes probably pretty much support Storey County.
Is conservatism dead in America? Does everyone left, right, and center, now embrace anything that makes money?
“Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession.
I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.” - Ronald Reagan
Man, that guy was too smart, by half.
Ok- First—Dirty Harry Reid is absolutely hated in N Nevada, where this person lives, owns the LEGAL brothel, and is also the owner of the largest state industrial park, just east of Reno along I-80, Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park.
He is very hard working and didn’t start the brothel-—he bought it when the Feds closed down the prior owner.
Prostitution is legal in a few of Nevada counties, and Storey county is one of them. Virginia City (Bonanza) is also in Storey County. It is the smallest county in the state.
The brothels are run very well and don’t cause trouble to the surrounding community.
Storey County runs itself on about $1.5 million a year and the brothels there pay over 1/2 of that cost in taxes.
legal does not make it moral.
This man is an immoral cretin who should never be trusted by anyone.
Well, over all, most of rural Nevada is pretty conservative. We are mostly not very judgmental either.
If they aren’t social conservatives, then they are social liberals, which means not conservative.
Most social liberals are democrats, the rest are the ones trying to move the GOP to the left, the Romney/Rove portion of the GOP.
You might have noticed all of Nevada’s rural counties voted Republican, only Washoe and Clark are democrat.
So, liberalism is liberalism, if they aren’t conservative then they are at best, Romney/Rove/Rockefeller type republicans, even if they don’t fully embrace the democrat party.
If prostitution is something that you support, then don’t call yourself conservative.
I support people doing whatever job they choose to do as long as it is not illegal. I much prefer that to them sitting home expecting me to pay their way.
I do not choose to be a prostitute, a gambler or a miner. They all three however, are legal occupations in my county. Not a one of them interferes with me either. I chose to work in a library, however, I respect the prostitutes, the gamblers and the miners.
They all work hard at what they do, and except for some of the gamblers had a choice in what profession they chose. I will admit that some gamblers are addicted and have no real choice.
Oh, I do call myself a conservative.
I expect many of his patrons felt obligated to vote for him. Reckon?
The laws are what politics is all about, and conservatives do not support prostitution, liberals do.
It sounds like the kind of state that would vote for Obama twice and have democrats controlling the state houses.
