A National Crisis in Character
GOP USA ^ | 11/19/2012 | Star Parker

Posted on 11/20/2012 1:46:08 PM PST by IbJensen

Here's an excerpt from a letter I received the other day from a college professor: "[T]hroughout this election I discussed with students the differences between ideologies. The majority of them are on federal financial aid. They are fine with more taxes as long as they will be taken care of. It is disturbing to hear that they are willing to spend their own money on tattoos and cell phones but cannot buy the book for class until the financial aid comes in."

For those who see social conservatism as an annoyance and argue that Republicans must purge this agenda from their party in order to survive, I say, "Think again."

If Republicans want revival, we need honest focus on what's really wrong in America and what must be done to assure that a great nation will be standing for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

This kind of thinking is different from polls and focus groups and clever schemes to manage media and voter turnout. Leadership is about identifying the truth, believing it and telling it in a way that people can grasp. Then they will respond and follow.

The professor's letter provides a snapshot, a hint, of what America's most basic problem is today. It's a problem of character and values. Having lectured on more than 180 college campuses over the last 20 years, I have seen exactly what the professor is talking about.

Of course government is too big. But how did it get this way? Americans vote every two years. They voted every two years during the whole period over which government grew to its current unwieldy size. With the majority of the country now on one kind of government program or another, does anybody really think we can change this without talking about the human attitudes and values that produced it?

Democrats have a much easier problem than Republicans. They are not trying to change America. The trends and attitudes that got the whole country on welfare, that produced the moral relativism that is destroying our families and character, is the platform of the Democratic Party. Democrat politicians just have one job: deny that the patient is sick.

Republicans, if they are going to be a real opposition party, have a much tougher job. With all the talk about this last election being driven by demographics and turnout, the most basic point is the party and its candidate did not step up as a serious, principled opposition party. We can't save Medicare and Social Security. They are bankrupt. Did we hear this from the Republican candidate? We heard wishy-washy words about reforming these systems so we can save them.

Did we hear anything about how our public schools -- controlled by unions whose agenda is growing their benefits and promoting moral relativism among our youth -- are destroying our children and our future? No.

When Ronald Reagan was first elected in November 1980, 18 percent of our babies were born to unwed mothers. Today, 42 percent are. Anyone who thinks this is not of crisis of the first order can just as easily vote for a Democrat as a Republican.

Americans just re-elected a president who opposed the Supreme Court decision banning partial-birth abortion. The leader of our nation thinks it should be legal in America to kill a live, fully formed infant. What does this say about America today and our future?

There may be Republicans who think that we can ignore the crisis in character and values that underlies our fiscal crisis. There may be Republicans who think that if we have a better tax system it doesn't matter if we have a country of single mothers, sexually ambiguous and confused men, and abortion and euthanasia on demand. But ignoring these things would mean not just the end of the Republican Party, but the end of our country.

Liberals have be indoctrinating our children since they first entered school that it’s good to live on the dole. Why not get an Obama phone, food stamps, financial subsidies of all sorts while attending college? Everyone else does it. Now, allong comes the Republican Party who wants to convince you that’s wrong. That’s a difficult sell.

What we truly need is complete financial collapse, and the reset that goes with it.

Like the chronic alcoholic, it is most likely that things will have to hit rock bottom before a change can occur. Too many people are addicted to government dependancy.

I got the strong feeling that America sealed its judgement in the 2012 election. If God doesn’t judge us, He owes Sodom and Gomorah an apology.

Why don't we just build and give away GOP phones that screw up the calendar around election day or give false directions to the polling places?

What's that? Voter fraud? Don't be ridiculous! There's no such thing as voter fraud in the U.S.

I bet it would cost less than the $1 billion Romney spent and have better results.

Life-cycle of Democracy - around 200 years.
We are currently in the last phase of the democratic cycle before the people are enslaved by their own government. The founding fathers knew that it would happen.
Thomas Jefferson said “...The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage

I suspect it will go far beyond "rock bottom" until we change. . .

I expect things to get violent when the Checks stop and EBT cards stop working.

Something along these lines:

I think that, at this point, America will just have to party until the beer is gone and go to work on Monday with a hangover.

Good grief! That’s a horrible picture, exnavy. I can already see hordes of 20-year-old bums knocking on my door and asking for food. Sergeantdave has a limited number of soup cans to give out.

Sadly, I agree. But the streets will run with blood and the world will become a much more dangerous place. Whenever a world dominant power collapses the aftermath is chaos,terror and conflict. History...History...History! The power vacuum will be filled. The question is, "By who"?

PC
Dependence classes
Entitlement Culture
The Welfare State
Long-term consequences of debt, SS and Medicare
Reverse discrimination
Illegal immigration/Immigration
Crime

These are some of the major issues that would concern me, not just as an American, but if a young American. Yet you nary hear the press or pols mention them. Just imagine being college age and thinking you’ll get a well paying job and live happily ever after, without thinking for a second the impact of the debt, immigation/demographics and so on.

Alot of these kids are in for a mighty rude awakening, I’m afraid. Quite frankly, they ought to be really p***** at the Xers, Boomers and what’s left of The Greatest Generation for leaving them these legacies.

[ If God doesn’t judge us, He owes Sodom and Gomorah an apology. ]

We are being judged but not by God but from our own choices..
Obama is a punishment to America, for sloth and envy and moral perversion..

Its here.. Now.. deservedly so.. America deserves punishment..
75,000,000+ babies cry out from the dumpster.. for justice..
American women(and men) have become whores.. sadists and masochists..

Teotwawki~:” Too many people are addicted to government dependancy.”
IbJensen~:” Liberals have be indoctrinating our children since they first entered school that it’s good to live on the dole.”

Remember the ‘Good Old Days’ when education meant something ? It stood for critical thinking , and questioning authority , and evaluating ‘cause and effect’. .

Nowadays , most public schools are thinking of dropping cursive writing ~ saying that we must use and take advantage of current electronic media , computers, and other electronic devices.
Schools now teach to the lowest , dumbest denominator and hold advanced students behind until the rest of the class catches up . The bightest students get held back , and then bored , and then lose interest in further education .
The ability to communicate ideas and language is one of the principles that separates humans from the rest of the animal world .

It is the ‘dumbing-down’ of education during the early formative years that looks for information and news in 30- 45 second “sound bites” from the lamestream media ; it is the lack of critical thinking that got us our current administration ; and is the the ignorance of “cause and effect” that has led to ‘entitlements’ and our current economy ‘suicide watch’ .

Collapse the system. Get as many people on some sort of dole as possible. Their aren’t enough taxpayers to cover the cost.

I’m unemployed and benefits ran out. But I’m financially comfortable enough. So I told my wife, who works, that we are getting a divorce and then I’m going to apply for every single government aid I can get.

I live in TN and I’m still surprised at what I can get from food stamps to healthcare coverage to more unemployment, etc.

It’s disgusting. And as I sit in some bar or restaurant paying with taxpayer dollars I’m going to make sure the stupid kid waiting on me knows it’s on them.

Jaded? You bet. I’m done.
