(Mayor Moocher) Newark Mayor Cory Booker agrees to live off food stamps for a MONTH
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | 20 November 2012 | Meghan Keneally

Mayor Cory Booker is known for his social media savvy, having helped direct emergency services in Newark, New Jersey to stranded citizens during snowstorms and field questions during Hurricane Sandy. Now he's taking the talk offline as he bet a Twitter trash-talker that he could live healthfully on food stamps for a month. The Democratic politician got into a dispute with a woman on Twitter who took issue with his dispelling of some free advice via Plutarch.

'An imbalance between rich and poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics,' Booker wrote on Sunday morning. User @MWadeNC took issue with the quote, as it could be interpreted as a call to redistribute wealth. The debate progressed from there, with the woman arguing that it is not the place of the government to insure that everyone maintains high nutritional standards, but Booker responded that it is when it comes to children who need to be 'ready 2 learn' at school.

The argument took it's marked turn when the Twitter user made a slight about food stamp recipients, saying 'why is there a family today that is "too poor to afford breakfast"? are they not already receiving food stamps?' Booker responded: 'Lets you and I try to live on food stamps in New Jersey (high cost of living) and feed a family for a week or month. U game?'

Following up on the logistics, the user- whose real name has yet to be revealed- agreed and the Mayor called for a referee to make sure that the challenge was upheld. The University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, which is already organizing a similar challenge for its students, agreed to serve as a moderator.

The money he saves on food goes towards his drug addiction...

...typical.

While we’re all showing how noble we can be, can I get some fee food for my family too?

What the hell? A mayor is going to “rough-it” with the po-people by getting and using some food stamps? Does that mean he’ll be eating nothing but oatmeal and Romin Noodles for a month? I think not.

Stupid political stunt. But those idiots out there (otherwise known as constituents) will give him an, “Aawwww. He cares about us and can relate to us. What a great leader!”

I could eat enough to become obese off food stamps and still have enough to barter for whatever else might strike my fancy.

If he promised to eat everything I gave him, I think I could make Corry Booker obese eating on food stamps for a month!

$200 A MONTH FOR ONE PERSON.
Anyone who can’t eat well on that is proving he’s not all there.

Leftists tried to make a deal out of “eating on food stamps” earlier this year and found out the allowance is just too generous.

Yes you’re right.

AND in almost all cases, there is additional money to spend on food from who knows what, live-in boyfriends, relatives, TANF, also food from food banks.

AND the kiddies are covered by WIC up to age 5 and after that are fed breakfast and lunch at school, so those meals don’t need to be provided BUT aren’t considered in the food stamp calculation.

In Californis for 2 it is $367. Hubby and I could eat pretty darn good on that. As it is I try to keep it $300 or below.
So food stamp people are eating better than us. Figures.

OMG I could feed a whole lot of people on what they get . It is WAY more than what I set aside for groceries and I don’t even spend what I set aside each month . It’s no wonder I see them buying the useless junk they buy every time I get stuck behind one at the check out line.

Using coupons and buy one get one free you can almost double the money. ebt shopping carts usually are filled way beyond the guy paying cash.
in fla family if 4 gets abt 650.00. which w coupons n sales =1000.00. doesnt count the kids eating brkfst n lunch free at school. also doesnt include WIC.

I don’t know how much it is , but my sister was overjoyed
to get $200 a month, then they called her back in and said
she was worth too much and they could only give her
$18 a month.
She had already filed for bankruptsy and was about to
lose her tiny condo, she has been fighting for disability
for FIVE YEARS.
Appearently she is not the correct TYPE.
