Snip: The Ohio Republican has smoothed over differences with Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), expanded his powers on the panel that doles out plum committee assignments, shot down a challenge to his earmark moratorium and worked behind the scenes to ensure that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) would win her leadership contest.

After locking up the top three leadership spots for himself, Cantor, and McCarthy, Boehner made sure to deny conservatives the number four slot.
Then he co-ops Paul Ryan, a man who likes to play team ball, in an effort to get his seal of approval on the impending fiscal cliff capitulation:
Then, Boehner proceeded to stack the Steering Committee with his acolytes. The Steering Committee is responsible for doling out committee assignments to the entire House GOP Conference. The Steering Committee is comprised of all leadership members, Fred Upton, Dave Camp, Hal Rogers, Paul Ryan, and a number of leadership allies. Worse yet, he gave himself multiple votes.
Lastly, they moved to crush any organized conservative opposition through the Republican Study Committee by helping install Steve Scalise as chairman. Scalise has committed to working closely with leadership at a time when leadership has committed to banishing conservatives from all levers of power.
When you step back and reflect on these hardball tactics of the Speaker, it is tough to overlook the irony behind his ultimate motivation. Boehner is employing scorch-the-earth tactics against conservatives so he can have free rein in capitulating to Democrats on a laundry list of policy items.
H/T commentary from Daniel Horowitz at Madison Project for boiling down all the political-speak glossing over what this means to Conservatives in the House.

Its not conservatives vs liberals folks. Its statists (Boehner and most of the GOP being in this catagory) vs free Americans.
Dont worry. Many ‘conservatives’ are gonna hold his feet to the fire.

Well, Mr Boner, I may not be able to defeat the left, but I can damn sure defeat your pathetic party.
You are on your own.

I’m shocked that the game of politics is being played out in Republican held Congress.
That sarcasm, be that as it may, Boehner is in for a big surprise when he starts to capitulate to Liberals financial policies as all they are going to do is turn around and ask for more capitulation.
And here I thought that Romney’s election would kill conservatism. Seems just his nomination threatens to do that.
So he's making peace with Cantor, taking responsibility for choosing committee assignments, refusing to expand earmarks, and backing McMorris.
Why is this "war" exactly?
What killed conservatism is ‘conservatives putting the politics of ‘winning’ over principle. Then trashing everyone who wouldn’t go along for the ride.
Now they have no win, their ‘party’ is going full Democrat and no one can trust them to man up, admit their mistake and work toward a counter-party to the GOP.
THAT is what put the final nail into conservatism. Perhaps permanantly.
Yeah, that was preached by the ABO crowd pushing Romney.
I hold that Boehner is in league with the Marxists himself. He knows where the power is going to lie, and he and the rest of the Ruling Class Establishment - will do whatever it takes to share in it.
Including helping the Marxists and the Democrats destroy Conservatives.
If you ever needed proof that Conservatives need to split the GOP and start a third party - these facts reported here are your proof.
I’m also not seeing much of a “war” here. It doesn’t change the fact that Boehner is a teary-eyed snake.
More accurately, it's Washington vs the rest of us.
The only thing we're seeing here is the usual MSM tactic of using rhetoric to turn conservatives against their leaders.
It seems like FR falls for it just about every time.
Boehner's trying to get the GOP united for tough talks with Obama. And this is supposed to be a bad thing?
Some of us called it out from the start...
“...get the GOP united for tough talks with Obama”
This is the hands-down stupidist thing I ever read on FR.
Boehner is probably worse than a dim, because he makes Repubs even hate the GOP.
Boehner’s NOT “my” leader.
I remember what he did in conjunction with Romnye and the rest of the Ruling Class Establishment Oligarchs on Tuesday during the RNC.
This Hill article, smoothed over to hide what is really going on that Daniel Horowitz puts plainly -tells us that what is going on, is a PUNISHMENT and PURGE of Conservatives in the GOP.
And if you believe that Boehner is not going to cave to Obama, then you must still think that Romney and”Moderates’ are the best hope to beat Democrats in national elections also.
I’m sick of Congressman Boehner beating the stuffings out of Rush Limbaugh and other Conservatives. I am DONE with the Republican Party. We used to donate to them; but no more. Why do I want to support Communist Lite; they’ll have to keep on “seeing the Obama light” if they know what is good for them as far as the good graces of Joe Biden go. (Here’s a clue: Rush , Sarah, Allen West and the Tea Party are about all they’ve got going for them.)
