A top security official in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi was killed in front of his home overnight on Wednesday, security officials said, in the latest violence to plague the cradle of the North African country's revolt.
Faraj al-Deirsy, head of Benghazi police, died from multiple gunshot wounds, police and interior ministry sources said.
"This happened in front of his house when unknown attackers opened fire and hit him before fleeing," a police source.
An interior ministry official confirmed that Deirsy, in charge of security in Benghazi, had been killed in front his home.
Libya has been hit by persistent instability since the overthrow of Muammer Gaddafi last year. Authorities are still trying to disarm numerous groups, mostly militias who took part in the uprising, who refuse to lay down their weapons.
Wednesday's incident was one of a number of attacks in Benghazi, where local groups have also staged protests demanding more powers for eastern Libya and objecting to what they say is the central authorities' neglect of the region.

But .. what did he know .. and who did he tell what he knew ..?? Those are the real questions.
And the shadowy guy/s who made it didn’t make it with the anti-moslem script, that was dubbed in later by...someone else. Who, one wonders.
IMHO, in this case, not what he knew but who he knew.
Probably those who had him murdered wanted him replaced with one of their own.

Yes, I agree. He probably knew too much. The full story of Benghazi must be horrific.
Have to wonder if this was a snuff job by the Obama crowd to keep him from talking..., or a payback by SEALS for setting the stage for the abandoning of the consulate by Libyan security and permitting the attack on the annex.
My guess is that Obama’s crowd shut him up before he could spill the beans about the US weapons smuggling to the Muslim Brotherhood in other countries; ....the same reason that the Ambassador and others were killed on 9/11/12 with no aid given to protect them.
