Abortion rate falls during Obama’s first year in office: was it because of Obama?

The timing is a gift to us as we celebrate Thanksgiving in our nation this week. This year, we get to celebrate the lives of 5% more Americans.

The data was just released this week because it takes a few years to compile. I have said many times that I was curious to see what the abortion rate did in 2009, after the most pro-abortion president in the history of our nation was elected to office. The reason I wondered this wasn’t obvious, but ironic.

You see, as I have reported before, President Obama has actually been one of the best things to happen to the pro-life movement. Despite his intentions to bring a culture of “choice,” his dramatic approach to abortion has caused a sleeping church to wake up and stretch its muscles of both prayer and activism to increase a culture of LIFE. The result has been myriad new laws restricting abortion—under his reign as president. (Excerpt LifeSiteNews.com)

Who provides the stats?

The Guttmacher Institute in 1968 was founded as the Center for Family Planning Program Development, a semi-autonomous division of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Center was renamed in memory of Alan Frank Guttmacher, an Ob/Gyn and former president of Planned Parenthood, and the Guttmacher Institute became an independent, not-for-profit corporation in 1977.

CDC as well, I take it that the author is making deductions here based on the data.

Nope. Check the stats on Mexican AB rates, I guess, but they went for OB in a landslide.

No practicing Catholic can vote for a pro abortion leader. Not one.

Mexicans who vote for him are not practicing Catholics, they are not informed and therefore not helpful.

I’ll be crass and say that it probably has to do with people having less money to do the things that result in the cause of “unplanned” pregnancy. Fewer drinks over the course of an evening out, fewer cruises, fewer all-nighters at dance clubs, fewer chances to flirt on exotic beaches in the moonlight., etc. etc.

Simple explanation; making babies is apparently too much like work, so that probably needs to be outsourced as well.

Fewer abortion candidates might make for fewer abortions. And the impact of video games, Obamaphones, etc. to provide entertainment would lead to less personal interaction, which would lead to less sex, etc.

My best guess is that the economy sucks = less money for young Adults to go out and get drunk in Clubs = less hanky panky. My theory and I'm sticking too it.

I think it’s the rise of immigration ..these people don’t have abortions — they have babies ...on our dime.

But who knows ...maybe more people are waking up to the evil of abortion. One can only hope there will be a change of heart in this country someday ...it’s the ONLY way, despite whatever laws we pass.

When did the morning after pill go over the counter? When did RU486 become legal? What are the sales figures on those drugs?

If abortion were banned, the Dems would never lose another election. The ones having most of the abortions like their Obamaphones.

Maybe Sandra Fluke had a hand in this - since taxpayers will now have to pay for birth control pills and people are just waiting for this to take effect??

the probability of a man becoming a sperm donor is directly proportional to his level of employment in most cases, (dont ask me how I know)

the abortion rate will be influenced by the unemployment/underemployment rate

male birds have brightly colored feathers, male humans have printed pieces of paper and shiny objects

One factor listed in the original CDC report is that, as the economy tanked, the use of contraceptives went up. That suggests that a number of women didn’t want the cost of a child OR an abortion.

Another factor is that the use of contraceptives among teens has gone up; at the time of the report, over 60% of sexually active teens were using contraceptives, whereas 10 years before, less than 50% were using them.

I would say these are good trends, and I hope they continue.

I also hypothesize that the willingness to have abortions is largely controlled by genetics; as more of the genes predisposing women to have abortions are removed from the population, the fewer abortions there will be.

You’re both right ,, working 17 part-time jobs to make half your former pay really puts a damper on “enthusiasm” ...

The advantage the liberals have over conservatives is that they can sing “Kumbaya” songs touting “abortion rights”, and not many on the other side pass out graphic photos of the many horrible realities of an “industry” that peddles murder as its main “product”. - Liberals ooh and ahh about how awful it is to TELL THE TRUTH about abortion, the unvarnished truth.
