Krauthammer: Why Was There War in Gaza?
National Review Online ^ | November 22, 2012 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 11/23/2012 1:44:50 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Why was there an Israel–Gaza war in the first place? Resistance to the occupation, say Hamas and many in the international media.

What occupation? Seven years ago, in front of the world, Israel pulled out of Gaza. It dismantled every settlement, withdrew every soldier, evacuated every Jew, leaving nothing and no one behind. Except for the greenhouses in which the settlers had grown fruit and flowers for export. These were left intact to help Gaza’s economy — only to be trashed when the Palestinians took over.

Israel then declared its border with Gaza to be an international frontier, meaning that it renounced any claim to the territory and considered it an independent entity. In effect, Israel had created the first Palestinian state ever, something never granted by fellow Muslims — neither the Ottoman Turks nor the Egyptians who brutally occupied Gaza for two decades before being driven out by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War.

Israel wanted nothing more than to live in peace with this independent Palestinian entity. After all, the world had incessantly demanded that Israel give up land for peace.

It gave the land. It got no peace.

The Gaza Palestinians did not reciprocate. They voted in Hamas, who then took over in a military putsch and turned their newly freed Palestine into an armed camp from which to war against Israel. It has been war ever since.

Interrupted by the occasional truce, to be sure. But for Hamas a truce — hudna — is simply a tactic for building strength for the next round. It is never meant to be enduring, never meant to offer peace.

—— In effect, Israel had created the first Palestinian state——

Actually it created a bifurcated state that has lapsed into two states. Gaza is in effect a city state with no internal resources nor sustainable ability. East and West Pakistan come to mind.

What was occupied? All of Israel is the occupied zone.

Morsi has also taken dictatorial powers - he just declared yesterday that the Egyptian courts have no authority over his decisions or decrees. He is having the MB rewrite the constitution, and is essentially writing the judicial authority out of it and establishing a sharia state.

Way to go, Obama.

Morsi is trying to be like Obama. He has essentially done the same to America, though many have yet to realize it because he hasn’t officially declared himself dictator.

Not cancer....they are cockroaches. Cancer can be cured if caught early enough or at least forced into remission.

Cockroaches on the other hand, there is no living with them, they are filthy disgusting things that bring disease with them and cannot truly be iradicated unless you burn the building down.

In Gaza, the Israeli’s need to leaflet the place, with a 30 day order to leave. At the end of the 30 days you start burning the place to the ground and destroy everything. You doze it all into a big pile and crush and sort the remains.

There is no such thing a Palestinians...they are ARABS and there is no reason that they cannot go to Saudi, or Jordan or Syria or even Egypt.

The porblem is that none of their brother Arabs wants them in their countries either. No comity amongst these people? The others know that if they let the cockroaches into their countries there will be nothing but trouble emanating from them.

“What a mess the O admin has created.”

Yep. Installing the Muslim Brotherhood surrounding Israel doesn’t seem to have been so wise. Obama started it; God Almighty will finish it. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

In 1967 Israel should have pushed all the Gaza Philistines into Egypt and been done with it. Likewise Israel should have pushed all the West Bank arabs into Jordan. It could have been done in 1967. Now they should take back a strip between Gaza and the Sinai and fortify it and they should invade and secure the Northeast end of Gaza to a line south of Gaza City and enisle Gaza City. Then over time take one peripheral neighborhood at a time and push the residents further into Gaza City. Mor rockets then should result in Israel moving the line further southwest so that the Gazans come to understand that rocketfire means shrinking real estate. Either the rockets stop or the Gazans gradually get forced into the Mediterranean or into Egypt as Israel allows only one way traffic across their Sinai border strip.
All this would serve as a demonstration for the edification of the West Bank arabs also.

Egypt doesn’t want Gaza. Jordan doesn’t want the West Bank. The people of Gaza and the West Bank are known to be trash and are totally undesirable.

Gaza and the West bank are quarantine zones that by international consensus fence off the undesirables shunned by all in the mideast.

The recent ceasefire once again demonstrates the principle. Some money was collected from Arab brethren and will be dribbled out to prevent general depravity and starvation.

The problem of Iran however remains but is partially thwarted.

In 1967 what Egypt and Jordan wanted or didn’t want was irrelevant. It is the same now. Israel is what should matter to Israel.

Israel didn’t want the Palis either. The decision was to quarantine them into the west Bank and Gaza. That happened and was agreeable to all

US gives green light to Hamas to attack. Hillary sent to ME for photo op showing she was instrumental in ending skirmish.
Susan Rice gives her first interview during the same time. It’s all going to end like Benghazi, because there are too many outside players not privy to the rules. I don’t trust whomever is running this country.
