I was surprised to learn that one of the powers of the states is to provide education, especially since education is not mentioned once in the Constitution.

I was surprised to learn that one of the powers of the states is to provide education, especially since education is not mentioned once in the Constitution.

I was both surprised yet also pleased by that question (for the precise reason you state).

I assumed they were working on the premise "any power not specifically delegated to the government, is reserved for the states or the people" (Xth Amendment paraphrased) to come up with that.

At least it (the question) gives a passing nod to the notion that to "federalize" education ("Dept of Ed") is not Constitutional.

I saw that, too. NO Education is not mentioined, but then, Obamavoters think that food stamps (EBT’s), welfare, Income Tax Rebates (when they pay no taxes), Social Security Benefits, Un-employment checks, and Obamaphones are ALL in the “Bill of Rights”.
