Palermo Villa Inc. said Wednesdays National Labor Relations Board decision on its labor dispute vindicates the company.
Palermo properly followed immigration law in firing 75 workers earlier this year for not having proper documentation, the NLRB said Wednesday. The investigation into allegations of unfair labor practices against the Milwaukee pizza manufacturer found no evidence Palermo fired the workers in retaliation for union-organizing efforts, Irv Gottschalk, NLRB regional director in Milwaukee, told The Business Journal Wednesday.
It looks like they properly followed immigration procedures, but Im no immigration expert, Gottschalk said. Under the (National Labor Relations Act) that I enforce, theres no showing of unlawful conduct.
Palermo has said it had a legal obligation to fire the workers, most of whom are Hispanic. An investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys Immigration and Customs Enforcement unit earlier found that 117 workers, including 89 still on Palermos payroll as of May 30, did not have the appropriate documentation proving their eligibility to work in the United States.

Great news! And I KNOW me buying their pizzas over the 90-gazillion other choices in the freezer case is what turned the tide, LOL!
I’m thinking they see the future and want to shed as many ‘employees’ as possible before TSHTF in January, 2013 with all the tax hikes and such on small businesses.
I don’t blame them, or any other business one bit. I am trimming our sails and ratcheting down every aspect of our operations, too.
