Gen. David H. Petraeus, long the most famous overachiever in the U.S. Army, is already on his way to a new career distinction: breaking the land speed record for rehabilitation from a scandal.
It was only two weeks ago that Petraeus resigned from his job as director of the CIA after it became clear that his affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, couldn't be kept under wraps.
The dust hasn't settled yet on the chaos kicked up by the FBI's discovery of the affair, touched off by Broadwell's jealousy of another woman who liked men in uniform. Did Petraeus allow Broadwell to put unauthorized hands on classified information? Did the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John Allen, say anything indiscreet in emails to Tampa socialite Jill Kelley? Does the shirtless FBI agent get away scot-free? And did all this madcap socializing affect anyone's performance on their day jobs?
Never mind. We're a fast-moving society — and, it appears, a forgiving one. At home in suburban Virginia, Petraeus is no doubt still making amends to his high-achieving wife. But in the larger world, the retired general is already contending with an avalanche of opportunities for his next big job.
He's had offers to teach from at least four universities and had conversations about seats on corporate boards. He's thinking about giving speeches, writing a book on leadership or even becoming a talking head on television.
And that's not all.
"Down the road, a return to public service isn't out of the question," a friend who talked with Petraeus told me last week. Not as an elected politician but as a potential Cabinet officer in a future administration.
"He just doesn't see himself as a politician," the friend said.

In other words, Petraeus testified as he was told, and the press was told by Obama to be good to him.
Why not? Same with the ho lovin NY prosecutor, right?

This is nauseating. The deaths of those four Americans and the destruction of an American diplomatic facility have simply been airbrushed out of public consciousness.

The ambassador was killed, it can not be unaddressed.
The electorate does not care about it. The media, uneducated as most are, have no real sense of how big this is, that our ambassador was killed in country.
No matter how much cover up goes on, our enemies know what it meas and they are bold about it when they see us acting like media mesmerized buffoons.

FU you liberal weasel. How much ‘forgiveness’ did the LA Times or any of the other outlets of crap ‘journalism’ give Bush, for things that he wasn’t even responsible for? Liberals are the most intolerant jerks on the planet.
He’ll find a cush job on the board of The CFR and an executive consultant for “insert your favorite defense industry corporation here” in between holding down his dean of Princeton title.
I think you have hit on something. They honestly have no idea of how big this is.
In addition, people in the media seem to feel themselves to be inhabiting some other sphere, remote from and unrelated to the US, and it is almost as if the horrible things that are happening strike them as fictional or at any rate as things that have no impact on their personaly reality.
MSM forgiveness is never extended to conservatives. If the MSM forgives Petraeus here, it will only be because he was working for Obama at the time.
But if, in the future, Petraeus should decide to run for anything as a Republican, that MSM forgiveness would rapidly be withdrawn.
There is not a man alive that hasn’t fouled up when it comes to the lure of the siren song.
Anyone can understand that the fellow got caught with his **** out.
But that is not what is under examination here.
Like Clinton and Lewinsky, the wider matter is not about sex.
It is about national security.
Clinton was found guilty of perjury and was shown to be a liar.
The question with Patraeus is not whether he was fooling around with some tart.
It’s a question of did he fool around with his national duty’s? Did he get people killed while he was taking orders from the “little general”
The answer is likely yes.
That is probably a pretty fair assessment.
So much for “Duty, Honor, Country”.
Maybe he can do commencement addresses at our various military academies.
Better yet, he and Bubba can link-up to present a “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” seminar on leadership.

That’s the way I see it. They are playing with our country, they are pretending they are not responsible for the damage they are causing but it is tremendous. Imagine if the majors had all treated this as it should have been treated on Sept 11. It should have had the same size and scope of reaction that the Space Shuttle explosion did.
I don’t even think the dopey GOP senators get it. THey are not going to come out well on this - it IS historical and it cannot be covered up- it can be lied about, to our own embarrasment, but never covered up.
What are you talking about? There were no deaths and no consular facility. It never happened. It was all a set up to make a movie at a later date.
