Disagreeing with Obama can ruin Christmas, says White House report

Posted By Neil Munro On 6:00 AM 11/26/2012 @ 6:00 AM In DC Exclusives - Original

Any Republican refusal to accept President Barack Obama’s fiscal plan may ruin Christmas for the nation’s retailers, the White House claimed in a report released Monday morning.

“The National Retail Federation is forecasting that holiday sales will grow 4.1 percent this year … [but] if Congress does not act on the President’s plan to extend tax cuts for the middle-class, it will be risking one of the key contributors to growth and jobs in our economy at the most important time of the year for retail stores,” says the report, which was prepared by the Obama White House’s National Economic Council and the president’s Council of Economic Advisers.

“The holiday season is no time to threaten middle-class pocketbooks,” urges the report, titled “The Middle-Class Tax Cuts’ Impact On Consumer Spending & Retailers.”

Democrats made the same claim June 28, 2011, during talks about increasing the federal government’s ability to borrow more funds.

“Happy Holidays America: [Rep. John] Boehner plan would have the debt ceiling all over again during the holiday season, which is critical for the economy,” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer declared. (RELATED: GOP aims to gut Christmas, White House alleges)

Obama spokesman Jay Carney and top political aide David Plouffe also made the same claim that day.

The new report is part of Obama’s media campaign to blame Republicans for scheduled tax increases, spending cuts and the stalled economy during Obama’s tenure.

I heard sales were up today, well I know damn well that here in my house wer;re looking at the worst Christmas money wise we’ve had since we;ve bene married for 17 years and with 3 young kids.

How can sales be up if more in poverty, more on food stamps, less working.?

Are millions cashing in on welfare but working under the table or something, I don;t get it

The economy will collapse if people don’t throw away their money on junk they don’t really need. Absolute lunacy.

Who believes the numbers? It is all Pravda all the time now. I read something here over that weekend that sales were up 1.8% over last year but that year to year inflation was 2%——so by that measure sales were flat/off. And who believes that inflation in the last year was only 2%.

Come January, after everyone maxes out their credit cards, this slight upswing will take a dump. I have a hard time believing anything the media says about the economy anyway, good or bad.

I don’t give a damn about what Disagreements with Obama do to Christmas.

I’m more worried about what’s going to happen come the new year 2013.

That scares the hell out of me.

diesn;t make sense does it.
More in poverty, food stamps, less working foreclosures up but hey people have money for TV’s, lots of presents etc.

I know at this house that I have to find money without going into debt for my kids and my wife and I are not exchanging presents like we did not on our anniversary and birthdays this year.

Either there is a lot of scams, people maxing their credit cards or there are people who are making money unlike around here, what with food up, bills up , gas up

all I know that after 17 years of marriage and small kids we will have the worst Christmas ever and how people are spending when more are on food stamps, poverty, gas up, utility bils up etc is beyond me.

Damn scared here also.

However, we will take time out from the events of the day to really celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ.

To hell with the secular world and our federal dictators, we will celebrate Christmas however we can.

December 26, we will start prepping again.

it is just odd. A lot of people I’ve discussed this very thing with also think it’s odd. People must be maxing out CCs, be on SSDI or other social programs to “afford” all of the stuff they are buying.

I use the scare quotes around the word afford, because I don’t think anybody is affording items, they are simply kicking the can down the road much like the government is doing currently.

I’ve talked to a few people about this and all have said they have no money or hardly any money and are doing cut backs.

Either it;s my area in north east FL St Augustine which has no money or many are on some kind of welfare cheating the system thus giving them more money.

It was dead where I live, the mall in Jacksonville was not filling up till later that morning, no long lines etc

I honestly do not understand where people are getting money from

Sorry OWEbama. Won’t fly. You own it ALL now.

You’re in charge and you’re going into your 5th year. YOU were supposed to ‘work with’ Congress’ and fix America’s economy. It is all on you now, no matter what.

And Jay Carney is a flying monkey.

my wife and I will not be exchanging gifts nor did we for our birthdays or anniversary.

Yesterday we had to go to good will , first time ever for clothes for our kids.

That is how crap we are doing here and to hear people spending like crazy when people are in poverty, debt, food stamps, unemployed does not make sense to me or my wife.

I’;m pissed off not because people have money but people are crapping all over the system and claiming food stamps, welfare etc when they are getting money else where.

No we will not go go the salvation army or nothing as we will pay our own way , shame millions of freeloading scam artists and welfare folk cannot do the same and live within their means.

Things are going to get worse before they get better, but they will get better.

We are not at the bottom yet and it will probably be a fast hard drop when we get there.

Have faith that God will give us strength to climb out of the hole we have been thrown into.

Well, I think I understand where the money is coming from as well as you do - you hit on it in your last few posts. I say it’s odd, because it really is odd (queer). I hear people saying “I’m on welfare and I have maybe 200 dollars to live on for a month after my basic expenses are covered not including food”. I don’t believe it for a minute, because there sure seem to be a lot of people on the dole that do better than I’m doing right now.

Don’t get me wrong, I do OK... it’s just that I don’t have someone else paying my bills for me so I can do nothing and be “OK”.
